World Toilet Day was last week, but it's important every day. It may not be the most glamorous topic, but sanitation is one of the most important parts of staying safe and healthy during a disaster.

When an emergency disrupts water service, sewer systems, or access to clean facilities, having a plan in place can prevent illness and keep your household functioning.

Emergencies can strike anytime, and access to a functioning toilet isnโ€™t always guaranteed. That's why having an emergency toilet is an essential part of preparedness. ๐ŸŒŸ

A simple, low-cost solution is the two-bucket toilet system:
1๏ธโƒฃ Use one bucket for liquid waste (lined with a biodegradable bag, if possible).
2๏ธโƒฃ Use another for solid waste, layering with materials like sawdust, cat litter, or shredded paper after each use to reduce odor.

โœ… Why it matters: Proper sanitation helps prevent the spread of disease, keeping you and your family safe during disasters.

Take the first step toward being by setting up your emergency toilet today! ๐Ÿ’ช

โœ… A little preparation goes a long way toward keeping you and your passengers safe.

Fall weather has set in! With changing road conditions, make sure your vehicle emergency kit is up to speed. ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ› ๏ธ

Pack essentials like blankets, a flashlight, water, snacks, a first-aid kit, and a phone charger. Always check the weather for your route and use Tripcheck.com or call 511 for road conditions. ๐ŸŒง๏ธโ„๏ธ

Keep an emergency kit in your vehicle, here is your suggested checklist:

๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ Heads up, Yamhill County! A major weather event is on the way. ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ๐ŸŒง๏ธ

โš ๏ธ A strong atmospheric river is forecast to sweep into the Pacific Northwest this weekend, bringing heavy rain, mountain snow and gusty winds.

What you can do:

Secure outdoor items (patio furniture, garden gear) so the wind doesnโ€™t catch them.

Clear gutters & drains if you can โ€” reducing standing water helps.

Avoid flooded roads. Turn around, donโ€™t drown.

If heading into the mountains or passes, check chain controls & snow level forecasts.

Stay updated: watch for local alerts, advisories or closures over the weekend.

๐ŸŒง๏ธ An atmospheric river will bring substantial rain, mountain snow, and breezy winds this weekend across northwest Oregon and southwest Washington.

To prepare:
๐Ÿ‚ Clear your gutters of leaves and debris
๐Ÿ’จ Secure outdoor items which could blow away
๐Ÿš— Check road conditions before traveling through the Cascades
