Deputy Derrek Berg got in a quick round of duck-duck-goose during his daily walk-through at Meade Buffaloes USD 226 Elementary today!

For years, our deputies have been making regular walk-throughs at all Meade County schools in Fowler, Plains, and Meade. While we haven’t always advertised these visits, they’ve been an important part of what we do—being present, getting to know our students and staff, building relationships, and helping make our schools a safe and welcoming place for everyone.

Sometimes keeping our kids safe looks like having a conversation, checking in with staff, or even joining in a quick game of duck-duck-goose.

We’re proud to be part of the Meade County community and grateful for the relationships we’ve built with our schools, students, and families over the years.

The Meade County Sheriff’s Office is extremely grateful for all the fire fighters for the past week’s fire fight.

I would like to take a moment to focus on and recognize the Meade County Sheriff’s Communications Staff. Communication’s goal is to be “the calm in the chaos”—they act as the critical lifeline connecting the community to police, fire, and medical resources. Dispatchers don’t make arrests, fight fires, or patch up injured people. They’re armed with radios, telephones, and computers. Even though they do everything they can in an emergency: page first responders, be the voice on the other end of the 9-1-1 to calm the caller, request resources from local counties, direct calls from public & press, all while documenting the who/what/where of all the responders working.

So to the Meade County Communications & Support Staff, THANK YOU!!!

-Doug Ritter, Sheriff

Fire departments have banded together and knocked down the fire south of Meade. The evacuation has been lifted and residents are safe to return to their homes.

I understand that evacuation is an inconvenience but knowing that time is of the essence when dealing with wild fire & high winds, I felt it was a necessary step to ensure the safety of the residents of Meade before it was too late.
