417 people, one warehouse, and a whole lot of Halloween spirit!

NSA Mechanicsburg’s annual Trunk-or-Treat drew a record-breaking crowd Friday, Oct. 16, with costumes, creative decorations, and plenty of treats. Even a last-minute location change couldn’t slow things down!

A big thank-you to NSA Mechanicsburg’s MWR Community Recreation office for organizing the event, and to everyone who helped make it happen. Events like these bring our installation community together and support the quality of life that helps Sailors, civilians, and their families thrive.

A change of location couldn’t keep the Halloween fun away! 🎃

Hosted by NSA Mechanicsburg’s MWR Community Recreation office, the annual Trunk-or-Treat brought out hundreds of trick-or-treaters Friday, Oct. 16, for an evening of costumes, candy, and creative trunk decorations. When a last-minute location change moved the event indoors to the RV storage warehouse, the community showed up ready for a ghoulish good time.

Attendees cast their votes for their favorite displays, with NSA Mechanicsburg Security Department taking home the command trunk award for its jail-themed setup, complete with a mugshot lineup wall for photo ops.

The individual trunk winner was Laura Jensen’s Mad Tea Party, inspired by Alice in Wonderland.

Events like these strengthen the installation community and support the quality of life that helps Sailors, civilians, and their families thrive. Thanks to everyone who decorated a trunk, came out in costume, and helped make this year’s event a success!

Fire safety starts with knowing what to do before an emergency happens. 🔥

During National Fire Prevention Week, NSA Mechanicsburg Fire Department welcomed homeschool students Oct. 8 for hands-on fire prevention and safety training designed to help students understand fire hazards, prevention, and emergency response.

Fire Inspector Robert McCann covered fire safety fundamentals, including how to use a fire extinguisher and what to do in the event of a fire. Students also practiced using an electronic fire extinguisher simulator, putting their knowledge into action in a safe, controlled setting.

McCann and Firefighter Christian Viands then gave the students an up-close look at the fire engine and the tools firefighters rely on to respond to emergencies. Students tried on oxygen tank packs to experience their weight and finished with a tour of the firehouse.

Supporting homeschool families with educational opportunities is one way NSA Mechanicsburg helps military-connected families make the most of their installation community. These hands-on experiences give parents another resource to supplement instruction with practical, real-world learning.

Thank you to the NSA Mechanicsburg Fire Department for sharing their expertise, and to School Liaison Lisa Bodle for coordinating this opportunity for the homeschool community.

Navy Security Forces at NSA Mechanicsburg participated in scenario-based virtual reality training last week with instructors from the Northeast Counterdrug Training Center (NCTC), operated by the Pennsylvania National Guard.

Set up in the Building 14 Gym, the training used VR headsets and training weapons to put Sailors and federal civilian police officers through multiple scenarios, working in teams of two to practice decision-making, communication, and coordination in realistic situations.

The training also brought together military and local law enforcement, with an officer from Hampden Township Police Department joining NSA Mechanicsburg’s Navy Security Forces for the exercise.

Realistic training builds the skills and confidence needed to respond effectively when it matters. Working alongside local partners strengthens coordination, reinforces shared readiness, and helps ensure our security teams are prepared to protect the installation and the people who work here.

Happy 251st Birthday to the U.S. Navy! ⚓

Since 1775, generations of Sailors have defended our Nation, kept the seas open, and carried American sea power across the world’s oceans. Their courage, ingenuity, and sacrifice built the Navy we serve today.

From the Foundry to the Fleet, it is our Sailors, Navy civilians, and the families who support them who make that readiness possible. Every day, their professionalism, technical expertise, and commitment to the mission help ensure our Navy remains ready to meet the Nation’s needs.

Here’s to 251 years of naval service, and to the generations carrying that legacy forward.

Built in the Foundry. Tempered in the Fleet. Forged to Fight.

The Naval Support Activity Mechanicsburg Public Works Department recently paused its normal workday to focus on one of the most important aspects of mission success: safety.

The Safety Stand Down began with presentations from Dan Schismenos of the Installation Safety Office, covering topics ranging from slips, trips, and falls and workplace hazards to traffic safety and off-duty recreational considerations. Employees then rotated through hands-on training stations led by the Installation Fire Department, Installation Security Office, MWR Fitness, and Installation Safety Office.

The event also recognized several members of the Public Works team for their years of federal service. Congratulations to Rodney Dunkelberger and Benjamin Sheesley on 10 years of service, and to Terrance Burget, Mario Aguirre, and David Fox on 20 years of service.

Safety is a shared responsibility and a critical component of warfighter readiness. By reinforcing safe practices both on and off duty, NSA Mechanicsburg helps ensure its workforce remains prepared to support the mission every day.
