💛 Today we’re celebrating Crystal Huber, Long-Term Housing Case Manager in Grants Pass!

Crystal helps at least three families each month move into permanent housing—and works alongside them to build the skills to sustain it. Her passion for supporting families shines through in the care and dedication she brings to her work.

She has built strong partnerships with local property managers and gives engaging presentations that help community partners understand the program and connect families through referrals.

We are so grateful for Crystal’s commitment, professionalism, and expertise. Thank you for helping families find a place to call home and build lasting stability! 🏡

Monday Moment 💛

One of the things I love about family events is watching parents join in—to set aside the to-do list for a little while and just be silly with their children. Parenting carries so much responsibility. Sometimes we need space to remember what it feels like to be a child ourselves, and to find joy in being together.

My husband used to ask the kids, “Do you want to go on an adventure?” It might be a trip to the bookstore, the park, or another simple outing. I loved how he set the stage—and their excitement as they piled into the car. They knew it would be simple and fun, and we would all go together.

Families can create their own traditions of fun. A familiar invitation, a Friday dance party, or a Saturday walk to the park, can become something children count on and look forward to. It doesn’t have to be expensive or elaborate.

That’s the heart of Winter in Candyland: making space for families to play and connect. Those shared moments help children feel loved and secure, building a foundation for learning and growing.

Tiny Techno is coming up for the same reason—with nursery rhymes set to EDM music, families can dance, laugh, and be silly together. Parents deserve to enjoy their children, too.

And honestly, I still enjoy playing with my own parents. That joy of being together doesn’t have an age limit.

What simple “adventure” does your family look forward to?

🎉 Fun Friday: Let your little one take the lead!

Ask, “What should we play?” Then follow their imagination. You might become a dinosaur, open a pretend restaurant, or find yourself at a tea party with every stuffed animal in the house.

Even a few minutes of your attention can turn an ordinary day into something special. 💛

What’s your child’s favorite game to play together?

Monday Moment 💛

As we celebrate 20 years of Family Nurturing Center, I keep thinking about our founder, Mary-Curtis Gramley, and how much she understood long before the rest of us caught up.

She was my friend, at times my mentor, and then my cheerleader. At her core, she was a fierce advocate for children. She was fascinated by them—how they played, learned, and made sense of the world. She knew play was essential to learning and that social and emotional development would shape their lives.

Mary-Curtis understood that parents needed help and shouldn’t have to do it alone. She wrote a white paper on family-centered treatment, knowing that supporting parents could benefit their children for a lifetime. She saw how substance use disorder contributed to foster care and believed our community could build a solution.

That’s why I love this work: the possibility of lasting change that reaches across generations. I’m forever grateful that I was entrusted to nurture her “baby” and have the privilege of seeing the fruits of her labor of love.

I still talk to her, still ask what she thinks about decisions and directions. I knew I couldn’t fill her shoes, so I put on my own and tried to continue along her path.

Her legacy will continue to inspire hope and innovation, keeping children and families at the forefront of our decisions. We will continue to believe in people until they believe in themselves.

Rest in peace, Mary-Curtis.
