🇺🇸 25 YEARS LATER — REMEMBERING WHY WE SERVE

September 11, 2001, changed our country forever.

In the aftermath of that terrible day, our nation learned many lessons about preparedness, response, and the importance of having trained people ready to step forward when their communities need them most.

One of those lessons helped shape the Medical Reserve Corps (MRC).

Following 9/11, Medical Reserve Corps units began forming across the country, creating a network of volunteers who could use their medical and community-service skills to support their communities during emergencies and public health needs.

Today, that legacy continues right here in Taylor County.

The Taylor County MRC is part of a nationwide movement built on a simple idea: when something happens, people are willing to step forward and serve.

Our volunteers may never know when they will be called upon. But they train. They prepare. They stay ready. And when their community needs them, they answer.

Twenty-five years after September 11, we remember the lives lost, the heroes who responded, and the countless people who stepped forward to help.

We also remember the lesson that followed:

Prepared communities are stronger communities.
Volunteers make a difference.
And service matters.

🇺🇸 September 11, 2001 — September 11, 2026

We remember those we lost.
We honor those who served.
And we continue to serve.

On July 16, 2026, the Taylor County Health Department, with support from the Taylor County Medical Reserve Corps (MRC) and Taylor County Emergency Management, successfully conducted a Full-Scale Drive-Through Vaccination Clinic Exercise at the Taylor County Fairgrounds.

This exercise tested our ability to quickly establish and operate a Point of Dispensing (POD) during a public health emergency. Participants practiced every step of the process—from traffic management and registration to medical screening, vaccine administration, and post-vaccination observation.

The exercise was a tremendous success and demonstrated the strong partnerships that exist throughout Taylor County. Working together, we validated our plans, strengthened interagency coordination, and ensured we are prepared to protect our community when it matters most.

Preparedness doesn't happen by chance—it happens through planning, training, and teamwork.

Together, we're building a healthier, safer, and more resilient Taylor County.

📢 Volunteers Needed: Taylor County Point-In-Time (PIT) Count! 📢

Today Wednesday, July 22nd, we will be conducting the Point In Time Count in Taylor County. The PIT Count is a crucial twice-yearly effort across Wisconsin to understand the scope of homelessness. We count our neighbors experiencing homelessness, both those in shelters and those living in unsheltered situations, like cars or outdoors.

Why does this matter?

This data is vital for:
Understanding local needs.

Guiding funding decisions for essential services.
Tracking homelessness trends across the state to inform long-term solutions.

How can you get involved?

We rely on dedicated volunteers to ensure an accurate count. Your time can have a direct impact on the support available to those in need.

To volunteer or for more information, please call or text Amanda Newberry at 715-338-4894.

Join us in helping our community! Every person matters. Every count counts.
