FIRE PREVENTION WEEK 2026

CHARGE INTO FIRE SAFETY: SAFE CHARGING IS A SUPERPOWER!

Media Fire Company is proud to recognize Fire Prevention Week, October 4–10, 2026! This year’s campaign focuses on the importance of safely charging and using devices powered by lithium-ion batteries, including cell phones, laptops, power tools, e-bikes, and scooters.

Help prevent battery fires with these simple safety tips:

- Always use the charger recommended by the manufacturer.
- Avoid charging devices on beds, couches, or other soft surfaces.
- Watch for warning signs like excessive heat, swelling, unusual odors, or damage.
- Unplug devices when they are fully charged.
- Keep charging devices away from doorways and escape routes.
- Never use or charge a battery that is damaged or appears to be failing.

A few simple precautions can help protect your family, your home, and our community.

Fire prevention starts with YOU! Help us spread the word and make fire safety a priority all year long.

Early this morning at approximately 0502 hours, Company 23 was dispatched to assist South Media Fire Company at a reported working fire.

Engine 23 arrived on location and was assigned to stretch a handline to the second floor. The crew from Engine 23, along with members from other responding companies, opened the second-floor ceilings to locate and extinguish the fire.

Members of Engine 23 also assisted with checking for hot spots and fire extension throughout the affected areas.

Engine 23 remained on location until released by Chief 51.

On August 25 at approximately 0115 hours, Media Fire Company No. 1 (Company 23), along with mutual aid companies, was dispatched to 210 East Jefferson Street for a reported commercial building fire.

Engine 23 and Engine 50 arrived simultaneously and found an active fire involving a first-floor apartment. Engine 50 stretched a hoseline from Side A, while the crew from Engine 23 utilized water extinguishers to knock down the fire.

Crews from Rose Tree and Springfield assisted with a search of the building to ensure all occupants had safely evacuated.

The fire was placed under control within approximately ten minutes of the first-arriving units.

Deputy Chief J. Moore had command of the incident.

At this time, there are no photographs available from the incident, as the fire remains under investigation by the Pennsylvania State Police Fire Marshal.

Any photographs or images currently being posted or shared in connection with this incident were not approved or released by the Media Fire Company, Media Police Department, or Pennsylvania State Police.

We ask that the public refrain from sharing unverified images or information while the investigation remains ongoing. Additional information will be released when appropriate and as permitted by the investigating authorities.

On September 11, 2001, our nation was forever changed.

We remember the 343 members of the FDNY, the 23 NYPD officers, the 37 Port Authority officers, and all of the brave first responders and civilians who lost their lives that day.

We remember the firefighters who ran toward the danger while others were running away. We remember their courage, their sacrifice, and the families and brothers and sisters left behind.

25 years later, their sacrifice continues to remind us of the responsibility we carry every time we answer the call.

We remember. We honor. We will never forget.

Dear Residents,

Due to the uncertainty surrounding the future provision of EMS services within our primary coverage area, the Media Fire Hook & Ladder Co. will delay conducting an EMS subscription drive for the 2026–2027 subscription year and will evaluate the timeframe once service is solidified with our primary areas (Nether Providence, Upper Providence, Rose Valley and Media Borough).

The department sincerely thanks all area residents for their generous support of our EMS services over the past years. Your continued support has been greatly appreciated.
