Medina’s 2026–2027 deer management archery program begins Saturday, September 26, and runs through February 7, 2027.

Deer management activities may take place on approved City property and authorized private property. Areas where operations are underway will be temporarily closed to the public, with signs posted at access points. Please observe those closures.

The City’s deer management plan uses annual data on deer vehicle crashes, carcass collection, property damage complaints, community input, and visual deer surveys to guide its approach. In 2025, Medina recorded 30 deer vehicle crashes and collected 140 deer carcasses from roadways and parkland. The program aims to reduce crashes and property damage while protecting natural habitat and maintaining a healthy deer population.

Hunting anywhere within Medina city limits is permitted ONLY with a Municipal Deer Control Permit issued by the Medina Police Department. Permission from a property owner or an Ohio hunting license alone does not authorize hunting in the City. Anyone found hunting within city limits without a Police Department issued permit will be in violation of the City’s hunting ordinance.

The City program allows only authorized deer archery hunting. Hunters must follow City permit conditions and Ohio hunting regulations. Among the City’s requirements, hunters must be at least 21, hunt only on property covered by their permit, notify the Police Department before and after each day’s hunt, and use approved stand locations. Public property hunting is limited to designated locations through a separate application and selection process.

🏆 Congratulations to Special Officer Jerry Klue!

The Medina Police Department is proud to recognize Special Officer Jerry Klue, who was honored last week with a Lifetime Achievement Award from Ohio Attorney General Andy Wilson during the 2026 Law Enforcement Training Symposium in Dayton.

The Lifetime Achievement Award recognizes retired law enforcement officers whose careers demonstrate extraordinary contributions to Ohio law enforcement through leadership, service, integrity, mentorship, and a lasting positive impact on their communities.

Jerry has dedicated an incredible portion of his life to serving others through a long and distinguished career in law enforcement. And while he may have retired from full-time service, he certainly hasn't stopped serving.

We are fortunate to have Jerry continue that commitment right here at the Medina Police Department, where he currently volunteers his time as a Special Officer. His decades of experience, dedication to the profession, and continued willingness to serve are an example to all of us.

Please join us in congratulating Special Officer Jerry Klue on this well-deserved statewide recognition and thanking him for his continued service to our community! 👏🚔

Congratulations, Jerry!

🏆 Congratulations to Our Safe Communities Award Recipients! 🚔

Members of the Medina Police Department were honored at the 31st Annual Safe Communities Awards Breakfast, an event recognizing the outstanding efforts of first responders and safety personnel throughout Medina County.

This year’s keynote speaker was our own Special Officer Jerry Klue, who recently rejoined the Medina Police Department as a volunteer following his retirement from an incredible 50-year career in law enforcement. Officer Klue has a special connection to this event as he was the founder of Safe Communities in Medina County 31 years ago! We are proud to have him continuing to serve our department and community.

We also congratulate two of our officers who were recognized for their commitment to keeping Medina’s roadways safe:

🚔 Officer Erica Anderson received a Safe Communities Award for her efforts in OVI enforcement and traffic enforcement.

🚔 Officer Bailey Hagan received a Safe Communities Award for his dedication to proactive traffic enforcement.

Please join us in congratulating Officer Anderson and Officer Hagan on their well-deserved recognition, and in thanking Special Officer Klue for his decades of service and continued commitment to the Medina community.

We are proud to have all three representing the Medina Police Department! 👏💙

🚴‍♂️🇺🇸 HELP US WELCOME THE BAY TO BROOKLYN MEMORIAL BICYCLE RIDE! 🇺🇸🚴‍♀️

Tomorrow afternoon, Medina will have the honor of welcoming the Bay to Brooklyn Memorial Bicycle Ride as it makes its way across the country in remembrance of those who made the ultimate sacrifice.

Bay to Brooklyn is a memorial ride honoring the 343 firefighters who lost their lives on September 11, 2001, the FDNY firefighters who have since died from 9/11-related illnesses, and the thousands of U.S. military personnel who have given their lives in service to our country since 9/11.

In recognition of the 25th anniversary of September 11, the riders departed the San Francisco Bay Area on August 2 and are traveling by bicycle all the way to Ground Zero and the Brooklyn Bridge — and tomorrow, their journey brings them through Medina!

🇺🇸 WE INVITE OUR COMMUNITY TO COME OUT AND WELCOME THEM!

The riders are expected to arrive between 4:00 and 5:00 PM tomorrow. They will be escorted into Medina from West Smith Road, travel north on Court Street past the west side of the Square, then head west on Reagan Parkway to Medina Fire Station #1 and the Medina 9/11 Memorial.

We encourage residents to line the west side of the Square, wave your flags, and help us give these riders a warm Medina welcome as they pass through our community. ❤️🤍💙

The group will spend the night at Fire Station #1 before continuing their journey toward New York City.

📍 Expected arrival: 4:00–5:00 PM tomorrow

⏰ We’ll post an update on social media as we get a more exact arrival time, so keep an eye on our page and come out to show your support!
