🔥 ELEVATED FIRE DANGER ACROSS PORTIONS OF IOWA TODAY! 💨
Unseasonably warm temperatures, gusty winds, and low humidity will combine to create an elevated fire risk across portions of western and northern Iowa this Saturday afternoon.
Temperatures will climb well into the 80s across much of the state, with some locations in western Iowa potentially reaching the lower 90s. Meanwhile, strong south to southwest winds will gust between 30 and 40 mph, with a few gusts exceeding 40 mph possible across northwestern Iowa.
As humidity levels drop this afternoon, dry grasses and other vegetation could ignite more easily, allowing fires to spread rapidly in the gusty winds. The greatest concern will be across western and northern Iowa, where the combination of warm temperatures, dry conditions, and strong winds will be most favorable for fire growth.
In addition to the fire danger, gusty winds may produce areas of blowing dust, particularly near agricultural fields, potentially reducing visibility for motorists.
