On September 25, The Dollywood Foundation introduced a new annual tradition Give Like Dolly Day, created to honor Dolly's generous heart and her lifelong commitment to children.
Dolly started putting books into the hands of children in 1995. For more than 30 years with local program partners throughout the world, young children have received an age-appropriate book mailed directly to their homes each month at no cost to their families.
Since 2021, the Eastern Shore Literacy Council has been one of those local program partners covering the books and mailing costs to more than 1,700 children under the age of 5.
Anyone can Give Like Dolly and honor her generous heart and love of children.
Through October 25, a $25 donation through our "Flags for Heroes" initiative (www.shoreliteracy.org) will honor Dolly's generous heart and send a book to a child. Flags will proudly be displayed in early November at the ES Family YMCA in Onley. l
