Memphis Area Legal Services is excited to announce and welcome Nicole Grida as the new Chief Executive Officer of Memphis Area Legal Services (MALS)!

Nicole brings a wealth of experience, leadership, and a diverse background in litigation. Amid the many challenges that MALS is facing, Nicole is committed to hitting the ground running to further MALS' mission of providing high-quality legal services to low-income individuals in the Memphis area.

🌟 We are incredibly grateful to Retired Judge, Loyce Lambert Ryan, for generously agreeing to come out of retirement to lend her time and support to Memphis Area Legal Services during a difficult period! Her dedication to justice and dedication to serving our community is truly inspiring. Although her commitment wasn't to be here for the long haul, and as brief as it has been, we feel like she'll forever be a part of the team!

Thank you for your invaluable contribution and for making a difference in the lives of those in need. We will miss you, but we know that you're anxious to get back to the good retirement life! 🙏

On Monday, April 29th Memphis Area Legal Services partnered with Tennessee Alliance for Legal Services to host a Clinic at the Lucille McWherter Senior Center. We executed Wills, Power of Attorneys, and Advance Directives for more than 18 senior citizens. We thank all of those involved in making the clinic a success including Laura Brown at TALS, the staff at the Senior Center, Volunteer Attorney Anne Davis, and the MALS staff that stepped up to assist.

Memphis Area Legal Services' Board of Directors will hold their Annual Meeting on Wednesday, May 8, 2024, at 5:30 PM Central. Anyone is welcome to attend.

MALS is Celebrating Fair Housing Month! 🏡

Huge thanks to our amazing housing unit staff for their dedication. The Memphis Fair Housing Center provides free legal assistance for fair housing discrimination, predatory lending, landlord/tenant issues, foreclosures, and homelessness. Together, we’re making housing equality a reality. 💙

Did you know that Memphis Area Legal Services established the Memphis Fair Housing Center (MFHC) back in 1977? Thanks to a grant from the City of Memphis, MFHC has been tirelessly working to ensure fair housing practices for over four decades.

At MFHC, we believe that everyone deserves access to safe and fair housing opportunities. That's why we offer free education, enforcement services, and comprehensive housing counseling to the community. 🤝

Fair housing is a basic right. If you encounter unfair practices, report them to MFHC at (901) 432-4663. Let's work together for housing equality!

Legal Clinic Update: Our Second Saturday Clinic on the 13th of this month from 10-12pm has been moved to the 3rd floor of the Benjamin Hooks Library. See you there!
