The caricatures and critiques of young black men usually pivot around common tropes: The violent, drug-involved, angry, withdrawn, crude or disrespectful provocateur. The perspective on this young black man then becomes the control and policing of his body – rather than the acknowledgement and affirmation of his gifts, talents, mind or soul.

But our young men of color possess a wide range of complexities – insights, emotions, and aesthetics that the bias, judgmental public eye neither sees nor accepts because culture often defines these males negatively and far too narrow.

However, there is MUCH MORE to our young men of color beyond the stereotypical images displayed today.
