Memphis City Beautiful has worked since 1930 to keep Memphis clean, green, and beautiful.

The Memphis City Beautiful Commission, formed in 1930, is the oldest beautification commission in the United States. In 1930, our first job was to transform the then dismal and heavily trashed riverfront into a showplace for which Memphians could be proud. Five years later, in 1935, Riverside Drive was opened, and Memphis had a beautiful new "front door."

Memphis City Beautiful recognizes the power of beauty and celebrates the thoughtfully landscaped spaces that make our city shine!

We are excited to spotlight the University of Memphis and all that it offers to students, residents, and neighbors. Campus staff have been working to refresh the landscape, focusing on sustainable features designed to thrive for years to come. Maintaining the tree canopy, installing perennial plantings, and incorporating resilient native species are all part of creating a beautiful, park-like atmosphere for everyone to enjoy.

We invite you to celebrate the University with us and enjoy a walk through campus one day soon!
