“Call it democracy, or call it democratic socialism, but there must be a better distribution of wealth within this country for all God’s children.” - Martin Luther King, Jr
Martin Luther King, Jr’s legacy has been co-opted year after year by people who would have cast him aside and branded him an extremist if he were still around today. Dr King was not “color blind” to race, he advocated heavily for a radical redistribution of wealth, and he strongly condemned capitalism for its oppression of the working class. Dr King loved the freedom that he believed America represented, but was ashamed of the way the country had treated the people that built it.
Remember: Martin Luther King, Jr was a radical. Don’t let them tell it any other way.

🎄🎄 Happy Holidays from the Memphis-Midsouth Chapter of the Democratic Socialists of America!! 🎄🎄
We are so very proud of the work you and your comrades have put into the continued growth of our chapter in 2025!! Your chapter officers will be taking a short break to rest for the holidays, but we’ll be back at the very beginning of 2026. That means our chapter’s next meeting will be WOC on Jan 5, 2026, at which point our normal schedule will resume.
We encourage all of you to take some time to relax with your loved ones this holiday season!! Capitalism runs us all ragged, and we owe it to ourselves to make time for recuperation.
In the spirit of the holidays, we’ve put together a list of seasonal articles, podcasts & movies grounded in themes of socialism and anti-capitalism. Hope you enjoy!!
