FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Housing 4 Vets and Community Partners Unite to Serve Veterans and Unhoused Neighbors at Morris Park

MEMPHIS, Tenn. — Housing 4 Vets, Inc. will host Community Service Day on Saturday, October 10, 2026, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Morris Park in Memphis. Veterans and community partners will come together to provide food, clothing, raincoats, water, compassion, and support to veterans and unhoused neighbors.

Memphis Goodwill on Stage Road is partnering with Housing 4 Vets to help provide veterans with winter clothing, shoes, and business attire. Housing 4 Vets will also supply raincoats, while Tedarrel Muhammad will supply Everlasting Water for the event.

“We will stand with our homeless neighbors,” said Donald Askew Jr., an Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran and Founder and President of Housing 4 Vets. “We have to remember that we may stand in the rain for only a moment, but many of our neighbors have to live in it. Some have to shelter under bridges. We are coming together to show them that they matter and that our community cares.”

WEATHER UPDATE

Because of possible inclement weather, Housing 4 Vets has canceled the planned speaker system. The community service event remains scheduled. Volunteers and attendees are encouraged to bring a raincoat and umbrella.

VETERANS AND CIVILIANS INVITED TO VOLUNTEER

Volunteers should arrive by 9 a.m. Veterans are encouraged to serve on the front lines and will receive priority for those positions. Civilian volunteers are also welcome and may fill available roles as needed.

Veteran volunteers are asked to bring documentation confirming their service, such as:

• DD Form 214
• Military ID
• VA card
• State-issued ID or driver’s license indicating veteran status

CAPTURING THE POWER OF COMMUNITY SERVICE

Ifasola Elesije, also known as Dr. Amodaju, an Operation Iraqi Freedom veteran doing business as Amodaju Flix, will capture the community’s efforts on film. His work will share the message that we have the power to uplift the world when we take the time to love one another.

The filming will document people coming together in service and encourage others to help their neighbors. The event’s purpose is to meet real needs through love and compassion, without seeking financial gain or social media attention.

SPECIAL THANKS TO COMMUNITY PARTNERS

Housing 4 Vets extends its appreciation to:

• Memphis Goodwill on Stage Road for helping provide winter clothing, shoes, and business attire.
• Walter Person of Sonstorm Studios for offering the speaker system and DJ support and for his willingness to help, despite the weather-related cancellation of the speaker system.
• Ifasola Elesije, aka Dr. Amodaju, dba Amodaju Flix, for capturing these efforts on film.
• Tedarrel Muhammad for supplying Everlasting Water.

Together, these partners are helping meet real needs and remind veterans and unhoused neighbors that they matter.

🚨 TENNESSEE HOW MANY TIMES IS ENOUGH? 🚨

Tonight, Tennessee has some serious questions to answer.

The attempted ex*****on of Christa Pike did not go as planned. Reports indicate that Pike was administered two doses of pentobarbital, began audibly snoring, and the ex*****on was ultimately halted rather than completed. Emergency vehicles were seen at the prison, and Pike’s attorneys have alleged that she experienced unnecessary suffering and are seeking lifesaving measures.

And this comes just FOUR MONTHS after Tennessee’s failed ex*****on attempt involving Tony Von Carruthers.

In May, the ex*****on team was unable to establish the required backup IV line after successfully establishing a primary line. Attempts to establish a central line also failed, and Governor Bill Lee granted Carruthers a one-year reprieve. TDOC said at the time that the team was following the state’s protocol.

TWO FAILED EX*****ON ATTEMPTS IN FOUR MONTHS.

So tonight, the public deserves answers.

❓ How many failed attempts are enough?

❓ What is being done to make sure this doesn't happen again?

❓ Who is independently reviewing what happened?

❓ Is Tennessee's ex*****on protocol actually working as intended?

And most importantly:

🚨 WHERE ARE THE ANSWERS? 🚨

GOVERNOR BILL LEE.
TENNESSEE DEPARTMENT OF CORRECTION.

The people of Tennessee deserve transparency about what happened inside that ex*****on chamber tonight.

And there is another question that deserves an answer:

WHY WERE THE MEDIA WITNESSES PRESENT, WHILE TDOC KEPT THE CURTAINS CLOSED AND THEN OPEN?

WHAT WAS HAPPENING BEHIND THOSE CURTAINS?

WHAT IS TENNESSEE HIDING FROM THE PUBLIC?

Those are questions not conclusions and the public deserves a factual explanation.

This isn't about ignoring victims or minimizing the seriousness of the crimes that led to these sentences.

It's about accountability and transparency when the state carries out the ultimate punishment.

If Tennessee is going to continue carrying out ex*****ons, the public has a right to expect that the state can administer them according to its own procedures and provide clear answers when something goes wrong.

🛑 HALT ALL EX*****ONS UNTIL THESE FAILURES ARE FULLY REVIEWED. 🛑

Two failed attempts in four months should demand serious scrutiny.

TENNESSEE — ANSWER THE PUBLIC.

#🚨 TENNESSEE IF WE CAN’T TRUST THE EX*****ON PROCESS, HOW CAN WE BLINDLY TRUST THE CONVICTION? 🚨

If Tennessee can botch ex*****ons and then hide critical information behind secrecy laws, how are citizens supposed to have complete confidence in the same system when it comes to reviewing a death sentence?

This is bigger than one ex*****on. It is about accountability, transparency, and whether Tennessee is willing to admit when the system gets something wrong.

I am calling on Tennessee officials to take a serious, independent look at the cases of Gary Wayne Sutton and Tony Carruthers and consider clemency.

Both cases raise significant questions and issues that deserve to be examined beyond the simple fact that a jury returned a conviction.

A conviction is not the end of the conversation.

Read the transcripts. Read the court records. Look at the evidence. Look at what was said under oath. Look at the issues in black and white.

Don't just look at what a jury decided decades ago. Ask whether everything that has come to light since then changes how these cases should be viewed today.

And consider this:

The same state responsible for carrying out an ex*****on must be willing to acknowledge when its own procedures fail.

If Tennessee is willing to demand that people trust its justice system, then Tennessee must also be willing to earn that trust through transparency and accountability.

Gary Wayne Sutton and Tony Carruthers deserve meaningful review.

Governor Lee and the appropriate Tennessee authorities: do the right thing. Review these cases. Look beyond the verdict. Examine the records. And where serious questions remain, take the necessary steps toward clemency and freedom.

⚖️ Justice isn't about defending a system at all costs. Justice is having the courage to correct it when necessary.

Investigate the cases in the 90's.

Given the Christa Pike's stay of ex*****on, now is the time to ask Governor Lee to reconsider clemency.
