This morning, we proudly announced Horizon Crossing, the largest housing development in Fox Cities Habitat's 30-year history! 🎉

Located in the Village of Fox Crossing, Horizon Crossing is our largest mixed-income housing development to date, designed to bring families of different backgrounds together to create a vibrant, connected neighborhood.

With 56 lots, including 17 homes built through Fox Cities Habitat's Homebuyer Program and 39 market-rate homes built by our construction partner, Tom McHugh Construction, this development represents an exciting step toward addressing the growing need for affordable housing in our community.

None of this would be possible without incredible community partnerships!

A huge thank you to the Village of Fox Crossing, WI for working alongside us to make this development a reality, and to Community First Credit Union and Mary Beth Nienhaus for their generous support in bringing this vision to life. We are also grateful to Tom McHugh Construction for partnering with us on this exciting project!

Big problems require bold solutions, and Horizon Crossing is exactly that! This development marks a major milestone for Fox Cities Habitat, but even more importantly, it's about creating new opportunities for families to achieve homeownership and build their futures right here in our community.

We can't wait to share this journey with you as we bring Horizon Crossing to life!

Volunteer Spotlight!💡

We wanted to shine our spotlight on our small but mighty crew of tool repair volunteers. These three musketeers volunteer every Tuesday at the Habitat Warehouse and have become quite a trio!

Craig, Mitch and William are experts at tinkering. As tool repair specialists, they are responsible for all the "broken" power tools that come back from our construction sites. They take things apart, replace or repair parts, clean out spaces that have filled with dust and dirt, and get them back in working order so our construction crews can continue using power tools to build dreams. They are an integral part of our behind-the-scenes crew that keeps our tools running smoothly!

Thank you, tremendous tool repair team, for all of your hard work and camaraderie!

Ever wonder what goes into building a Fox Cities Habitat home?

From excavation and raising walls to siding, cabinets, and finishing touches, there’s a lot that happens between an empty lot and the day a family receives the keys to their new home. Our latest blog takes you behind the build to see each stage of construction and the volunteers, skilled partners and contractors that help make it possible.

Welcome Home, Adnan, Lamis, Batoul, Youssef, Abdullah, Omar and Jad! 🏡💙

Yesterday, we celebrated a special milestone as this family received the keys to their new home, one they purchased through Habitat's 0% interest mortgage model! A heartfelt thank you to all the friends, family and neighbors who came together to share food, celebrate and give this family a warm welcome into their new home!

Being accepted into Habitat's Homebuyer program was a moment of great joy for the family. In their previous rental, they faced challenges including ongoing maintenance issues and limited space for their family. Now, they look forward to celebrating holidays, birthdays and everyday moments together in a home that is truly theirs.

Their children are excited to make new spaces of their own! Batoul hopes for a quiet study space as she pursues dentistry, while Youssef dreams of a soccer-themed room and becoming an engineer. Abdullah and Omar look forward to a shared gaming space and careers in technology or soccer, while little Jad can't wait for a room full of toys and a car-shaped bed!

Together, the family looks forward to having space to grow, a garden to enjoy, and a home filled with new possibilities.

A huge thank you to the sponsors of this home, Menasha Corporation and the generous individual donors of our Builder's Circle and Cornerstone Society! Your generosity and commitment to affordable homeownership helped make this exciting new chapter possible for Adnan, Lamis and their children.

Family Spotlight Time!

Meet Jose, Cecilia and their three children.

Jose and Cecilia are building a future centered on family, faith, and togetherness. Along with their three children, Santiago and twin daughters Ximena and Sophia, their household is full of energy, laughter and even six pet fish! They love spending time together watching movies, riding bikes, and enjoying the simple moments that bring them closer.

As their children have grown, their family has begun to feel the limits of their current home. With little space inside and limited safe space for the kids to play outdoors, Jose and Cecilia began looking for a long-term solution that could provide their family with more room and stability. That search led them to Fox Cities Habitat’s Homebuyer program.

Now, the whole family is excited to imagine what life in their future home will look like. Santiago is especially looking forward to decorating his own ocean-themed bedroom. He dreams of someday becoming a priest or an artist with his own company. Ximena hopes to become a doctor or pastry chef, while Sophia dreams of becoming a doctor and owning her own bakery.

As a family they look forward to their future home being a place for birthdays, Christmas celebrations and everyday family moments. As Jose shared, “To us, a home is peace, tranquility and harmony in the family.”

Construction Update! 🏠🔨

As the warm summer days begin to wind down, our construction team and volunteers are still busy building! Fox Cities Habitat homes across our community are in many different stages of construction.

Two homes are nearing completion, with final clean days and home dedications coming up in October. Another home is taking shape as its walls go up, while a different build is moving along with siding installation. Across several other homes, work has shifted indoors, with electrical and HVAC rough-ins, kitchen cabinets, flooring and more underway.

One of the best parts of this work is seeing homes at every stage of the building process and watching each one get a little closer to the day a family can call it home.

Thank you to the groups who volunteered with us in September:
Faith Lutheran Church | First Congregational UCC, Appleton WI | First United Methodist Church - Appleton | Fox Communities Credit Union | Good Shepherd Lutheran Appleton | Grange Insurance | Habitat for Humanity Waukesha - Jefferson - Rock | Kimberly-Clark | Menasha Corporation | Miron Construction Co., Inc. | New York Life Insurance Company | Pierce Mfg | Plexus Corp. | SECURA Insurance | Zebra Technologies

It takes many hands and partners to bring Habitat homes to life, and we’re incredibly grateful for the partners who help light up our homes each year!

💡 Lighting By Design donates the beautiful light fixtures installed in our homes.
⚡ Schneider Electric provides essential electrical materials.
🔌 Fox Valley Technical College electrical program students and staff put their skills into action, providing the labor and expertise to bring it all together.

In fact, FVTC electrical students have now helped with the construction of 200 Fox Cities Habitat homes, marking our 20th year of partnership! Along the way, they’re gaining valuable real-world experience for their degree, while making a difference for families in our community.

As Pat Jensen, FVTC Electricity TD Instructor, shared:

“By participating in the construction of the last 200 Habitat homes, students have gained invaluable hands-on experience that extends far beyond the classroom. Working alongside skilled professionals and community volunteers, students have been able to apply electrical theory in real-world settings, developing technical competencies in wiring, safety practices, troubleshooting and code compliance.

The partnership has also helped students understand the broader purpose of their work, and the positive role skilled trades play in strengthening communities. Many students report that seeing the direct impact of their efforts on homeowners is one of the most rewarding aspects of the program.”

To Lighting By Design, Schneider Electric and the students and staff at FVTC, thank you for sharing your products, skills, and talents to help create safe, affordable homes right here in our community!

Amazing women doing amazing things! 💪🔨

Earlier this month, we hosted two Women Construction 101 courses, created by women, for women! Participants spent an evening learning from the incredible women on our Senior Crew. They got hands-on experience with nail guns, saws and drills, learning how to safely and confidently use each tool for projects at home or while volunteering on a Habitat build site.

We were blown away by the interest in this year’s classes and are so grateful to everyone who participated! We’re excited to build on that enthusiasm and hope to offer even more opportunities next year.

Thank you to everyone who came out to learn, try something new, and build their skills with us!
