Volunteer doesn't mean part-time.
Mendon Fire is 100% volunteer, but being a volunteer firefighter is anything but a part-time commitment.
Right now, three of our younger members are balancing work, school, and the 100+ hours of training required to become firefighters.
That means giving up evenings. Giving up weekends. Showing up when they could be doing something else.
And the training doesn’t stop once someone earns their initial certifications. Firefighters continue training on everything from fire suppression and search techniques to apparatus, rescue operations, medical response, and the equipment they may need to use on a real call.
They’re preparing for situations where there is no room to “figure it out when we get there.”
That preparation happens before the tones drop.
We’re proud of the young people choosing to make that commitment to Mendon, and we think the community should know just how much goes into becoming the person who answers that call.
Looking to get involved?
Mendon Fire is always looking for people who are ready to learn, train, and serve their community.
