🚒 TRAIN LIKE YOU FIGHT! 🔥

When seconds count, preparation makes all the difference!

Our firefighters recently took part in hands-on training focused on operating metal-cutting saws and chainsaws while working on both residential and commercial roof structures.

Different buildings present different challenges, and knowing how to safely and effectively operate our equipment is critical when performing roof operations and ventilation during a fire.

From residential pitched roofs to commercial flat roofs, our crews worked on sharpening their skills, building confidence, and improving teamwork in challenging conditions.

The fireground is no place to learn your equipment for the first time. Every training session helps ensure our firefighters are ready to respond safely, efficiently, and professionally when our community needs us most.

💪 Train hard. Stay sharp. Be ready.

Please join us in welcoming Firefighter/Paramedic Samuel Dejong as the newest member of our department.

Sam brings seven years of fire and EMS experience and six years of service in the Army National Guard. Over the next two weeks, he will complete orientation with all groups and receive clearance to operate our vehicles and equipment. Afterward, Sam will be assigned to Group 3.

With Sam’s addition, we now have 10 career firefighters. This allows us to staff two of our four groups with three firefighters per shift, significantly enhancing our operational capabilities during emergency responses.

Welcome, Sam. We look forward to working with you and wish you a long, safe, and successful career with our department.

Engine 44 and multiple members had the honor of representing the Mendon Fire Department today as we stood in support of some of our own, Firefighter/Paramedic Alex Drella and former Mendon firefighter, now Melrose Firefighter/Paramedic, Christian Drella, at the funeral for their father, Saugus Fire Department Lieutenant Damian Drella.
Lieutenant Drella passed away in the line of duty after a long and courageous battle with occupational cancer.
Our thoughts and prayers remain with the Drella family, the Saugus Fire Department, and all those mourning this tremendous loss. Rest easy, Lieutenant. Your service and sacrifice will never be forgotten. Thank you to the towns of Blackstone and Hopedale for providing coverage to allow our members to attend both the calling hours and funeral.

Yesterday, Mendon Firefighters had the honor of standing by at New England Steak Seafood for Paulie's Push arrival into Mendon.

This year for the 25th Anniversary of the September 11th attacks, Paul Veneto, a former flight attendant, is completing a final 220-mile trek from Boston to Ground Zero in honor of his friends and co-workers who lost their lives that day.

The Mendon Fire Department family is keeping Lieutenant Damian Drella of the Saugus Fire Department in our thoughts and prayers while he battles occupational cancer. Not only is Lt Drella a fire service brother, but he is also part of the Mendon Fire family. His son, Alex, is a firefighter/paramedic and acting officer of group 1, and his son, Christian, previously served as a Firefighter/paramedic at Mendon Fire before moving on to the Melrose Fire Department. In addition to being a firefighter, Lt Drella has an incredible talent as a fireground photographer, with decades of documenting firefighters and fire departments in the metro area and beyond. We have been honored to have Lt Drella document some of our incidents and trainings. Please join us in keeping Lieutenant Drella and his family in your thoughts

SAUGUS — Flashing blue lights and groups of public safety personnel lined the street, saluting as Engine 3 made its way through. Inside sat Lt. Damian Drella, who served with the Saugus Fire Department since 1987, on his way home from the hospital. Drella is currently battling occupational cancer,...

On Friday, 7/17/2026, the Mendon Fire Department was dispatched to 28 Hastings St for a reported structure fire, bringing in all off-duty members. Upon arrival, Engine 44 observed smoke and fire coming from the roof of a large commercial building. A working fire was declared, and mutual aid was requested, bringing engines from Blackstone, Hopedale, Douglas (water supply), and Uxbridge; tankers from Hopedale, Millville, and Uxbridge; and a Ladder company from Northbridge. Car 1 arrived and assumed incident command. Engine 44’s crew began evacuating the occupied structure and locating the fire, which was confirmed to be on the roof. After evacuation and mitigation of life hazards, Engine 44 deployed ground ladders to access the roof and found multiple solar panels actively burning. Crews located and shut down the solar disconnect. Upon the arrival of Ladder 44, the aerial was deployed, and the hoseline stretched to extinguish the fire. Fortunately, the damage was limited to the solar panels, with no extension into the building. The State Fire Marshals’ office fire investigation team was contacted and responded. The cause of the fire remains undetermined pending the results of a further investigation.
