Somerset Elementary School Somerset is a neighborhood K-4 elementary school in School District 197. Our school is a unique jewel; it feels like a second home to our students and families.

Located in a beautiful suburban setting; we serve students from kindergarten – 4th grade. Our setting allows students and families’ space to enjoy physical education and recreation near woods, stream and trails. We consistently achieve academic excellence by fostering student's individual talents and skills by creating a climate of pride in our school. We extend that feeling of community kindness and care through local and worldwide service projects. When interacting with the community through Facebook, the district seeks to maintain a safe, respectful and supportive environment. A big congratulations to Ms. Redding's Kindergarten class, currently leading the school in participation at 76%! 🎉

📚 Classroom Reading Challenge
The classrooms with the highest average reading minutes at the END of Read-A-Thon will earn a CLASSROOM PARTY! Here's who's currently leading in each grade:

⭐ 4th Grade: Ms. Dodson's class (with Ms. Duellman's class close behind!)
⭐ 3rd Grade: Ms. David's class
⭐ 2nd Grade: Ms. Gardner's class
⭐ 1st Grade: Ms. Brignac's class
⭐ Kindergarten: Ms. Paton's class

What's going on in the classroom?

Each of our classrooms goes to science once a week as part of our specials block. These first few weeks, students have been focused on learning to use science tools and make observations of the world around us!

📚👻 Join us for one of Somerset's favorite fall traditions! Family Reading Night is Thursday, October 29, from 5:30–7:00 PM at Somerset in the front parking lot!

Bring the whole family for a magical evening of reading! Travel with a group to four fun reading stations, enjoy snacks, hot dogs, and hot apple c***r, and celebrate reading together! All minutes read count toward our school-wide Read-A-Thon goal!

🎃 Costumes are encouraged!

📚 We had our Read-A-Thon kick off Assembly yesterday!

Our theme for this year is 🥁

✨🌳 Magic Tree House!!

Read-A-Thon is one of Somerset’s biggest fundraisers of the school year! Students and families will work together to reach reading and fundraising goals while earning some awesome prizes along the way.

Minute tracking and fundraising begins Wednesday, October 14 and ends Saturday, November 21.

⭐ Our school-wide goals this year:
📖 300,000 minutes read — that’s just 20 minutes a day per student!

🚒 We had some very special guests at school on Monday! In honor of Fire Safety Week, our local Fire Department stopped by to visit our kindergarteners and 4th graders.

Our students learned all about fire safety, checked out the fire truck up close, and saw what firefighters look like in their full protective gear.

A huge THANK YOU to our firefighters for taking the time to teach our young learners and keep our community safe! ❤️
