Last week, 13 FHMS students had the unique opportunity to connect with young Ukrainian students and artists through a three-hour video call.

Artwork created by the Ukrainian students was sent to the Eagan Wescott Library and displayed for the local community.

Students asked each other questions about everyday life in Ukraine and the United States, the stories and meaning behind their artwork, and how their art has evolved since the beginning of the war.

The conversation offered our students a perspective that can be difficult to gain from a textbook or lesson—a chance to listen, ask questions, and learn directly from peers living through an experience very different from their own.

It was a powerful reminder of the ways art and human connection can bridge distance, culture, and circumstance. 🇺🇦🎨

A friendly reminder that there is no school Monday, September 21, for staff professional development. We'll see students back in school on Tuesday, September 22!

This fall, voters will decide whether to approve a School District 197 levy to help support the schools, programs and services our community relies on.

The district has already cut more than $3.2 million from its budget over the past two years while working hard to protect classrooms. If approved, the levy would help reduce the need for additional cuts in the coming years.

Today at FHMS we threw it back to 1787 with a visit from a Founding Father for Constitution Day.

Learning about the branches of government, the Bill of Rights, and the beginnings of our democracy can be pretty fun when you have teachers who bring history to life. 📜🏛️

Our science classes are kicking off the school year with some fun, hands-on activities! 🧪🧬

6th grade: Mrs. Mahlstedt’s students have been putting the design process to work with their class pet, Harry! They’ve designed, tested, and redesigned a chair and boat for Harry and are wrapping up the week with catapults and a pyramid challenge.

7th grade: Students extracted DNA from bananas as they explored genetics.

8th grade: Mr. Reed’s science students reviewed lab safety by investigating “crime scenes” where safety rules were ignored.
