Great news! We got the “all clear” from the mold remediation people to move back into our squad room just in time for the roll out of our new records management system. This software implementation has been a huge lift for our Captain Wayne Wegener (pictured here with a big grin because it is finally happening), our Records Technician Trista Miller, our partners at CJN, and all the old dogs learning new tricks.

Speed Camera Update

Our 2026 camera enforcement is a wrap (we remove the speed trailer from the road prior to November 1st to comply with our ordinances).

Preliminary numbers are below.

Our goal in placing the speed camera on Delaware was to slow traffic down prior to construction to increase safety for road crews. Traditional, in-person enforcement will still continue and will be focused on Delaware.

As always, feel free to contact me with any questions [email protected]

A special thank you to all of the staff at the Mendota Heights Police Department.

On September 23rd, I was notified that significant amounts of black mold were located in our squad room and we had to stop using it immediately. As many of you know, our squad room is the only space our patrol officers have and serves as breakroom, training room, roll call room, and meeting room. It is also where most of our officers patrol gear is stored.

That evening, we moved the essential items out of the squad room to our front office area while we formulated a plan. We then came in that night and cleaned out lockers and made a temporary space in our garage. Between temperature regulation and vermin control, we quickly learned that space would not suffice. We ended up moving most things out of my office and moving patrol again.

City administration moved quickly to get the mold remediated and we hope to get the all clear to move back into the squad room in the next few days. The source of the moisture has not been located, so we will live with a hole in the wall for the foreseeable future.

Your police department took all of this in stride. While dealing with these less than ideal conditions, they still responded to over 300 incidents including 43 level one medicals, worked special details at homecoming games, a 5K, and significant religious services. They facilitated and attended fi****ms training and use of force training. They did all of this while training in a test environment of a records management system that will fundamentally change they way they do their jobs and is scheduled to go live in the next few weeks.

I come from a generation where the “thank you” for doing your job is directly deposited every two weeks, but by anyone’s standards these cops and records technicians have done a very difficult job under less than ideal circumstances that deserves public recognition.
I would also like to thank the city administration for arranging the remediation, public works for assisting in moving items out of the PD, and the elected officials who cared enough to see the facility in person.

Having some work done on your house? Criminals are watching.

Criminals have figured out that construction workers and handypersons often leave work trucks unlocked so they can access tools. There have been a few instances over the summer, including yesterday, where thieves target work trucks in the middle of the day. Please let every visitor to your house know to lock their doors, even if away for just a moment.

Please and thank you,

Chief
