Raccoons will go into trash cans because they are opportunistic omnivores and are looking for an easy food source🦝. Raccoons getting in the trash can cause several issues: scattered garbage, attracting other pests, property damage, disease spreading, aggression, poor nutrition and physical traps.

Keep the raccoons out of your trash by: securing the lid with a bungee cord, ropes or place a heavy block/rock on top of the lid. Keep garbage cans in the garage or shed until garbage pickup.

If a raccoon is stuck in the garbage: tip the container over on its side and let it come out on its own. OR place a branch/wooden beam inside at an angle to act as a climbing ramp and let it come out on its own.

Jewelweed, as the name implies is a beautiful native wildflower. Brightly colored orange with darker reddish-brown blotches and the peak flowering time is now. This plant can be found it moist, wet shady areas and is a pollinator magnent.
Another common name for this plant is spotted touch-me-not, getting this name from the ballistic seed pods that burst open at the slightest touch. Catapulting the seeds in every direction, they can disperse about 4-6 feet away from the parent plant!
