Welcome to Made in Merced, where we introduce you to the people and businesses that make up our city!

Today, we wanted to introduce you to since they are celebrating their 90th anniversary!

Listen in to hear more about the history of Gottschalk and how it was born out of a desire to lift spirits through music during the struggles of the Great Depression.

If you've been impacted by this local gem, we'd love to hear about it in the comments.

[Video Description: The video opens with views of downtown Merced, featuring a large mural and local street scenes. It transitions to the exterior of Gottschalk Music Center, showing its classic neon sign and storefront located at 234 West Main Street. To illustrate the shop's history, the video uses black-and-white photographs of the Great Depression, alongside images of an early high school band. Interior shots offer a detailed look at the store's inventory, including rows of acoustic and electric guitars, shiny brass instruments such as trumpets and saxophones, and various percussion sets and drum hardware. The footage highlights the shop's active environment. Photos show local musicians interacting within the shop, practicing their instruments, and preparing for performances. The video concludes by displaying a map of the store and the business website, gottschalksmusiccenter.com, over modern interior shots of the well-organized music store.]

A training drill can look unnecessary… until it’s your house.

We’re not out here to waste water or disrupt the neighborhood. We train in real neighborhoods under real conditions because firefighters don’t get practice runs when the call comes in.

Hydrant pressure matters. Hose deployment matters. Speed matters.

This training isn’t about today. It’s about being ready for the worst day of someone’s life, so when it happens, we are too.

The will be conducting live fire wildland training exercises from June 22nd to 30th to keep their crew prepared and ready to keep our city safe and protected. So if you see smoke in the area, don't be alarmed.

[Video Description: Two firefighters get out of the firetruck, open up a fire hydrant, and attach their hose to it. Water is being dispensed out of the back of the firetruck.]
