Yesterday, we concluded our 2nd Spanish Community Academy Throughout this eight-week course, participants learned about the different divisions within the Merced Police Department and our allied agencies, gaining a better understanding of how we work together to serve and protect our community.

We would like to thank everyone who participated in this year’s academy. We appreciate your time, dedication, and willingness to learn more about the work we do. We hope you leave with valuable knowledge, new connections, and a stronger relationship with your Merced Police Department.

This October, the Merced Police Department is raising awareness for breast cancer and encouraging our community to join us in spreading the message.

Show your support by wearing our new breast cancer awareness sticker! Ask one of our Merced PD officers for a sticker or stop by the Merced PD Lobby to pick one up.

Together, we can spread awareness, show support, and help make a difference.

On October 8, 2026, at approximately 1:00 p.m., the Merced Police Department was notified of a bomb threat involving Merced High School.

Officers immediately responded and placed the school on lockdown. Officers conducted an initial search of the school and determined there was no immediate danger. Students and staff were then safely evacuated from campus while officers continued a thorough search of the school grounds. No suspicious items were located.

We would like to thank all the officers who assisted in keeping our community safe, with a special Thank You to the Fresno County K-9 Unit for their assistance and support. We also extend our gratitude to the Merced County Sheriff's Office for handling Merced PD calls for service while the situation was being resolved.

We would also like to recognize the parents, staff, and students for their patience, support, and cooperation during this stressful time. Their cooperation helped ensure students were safely reunited with their families in a timely manner.

This incident remains under investigation.

Today, our officers joined fellow first responders, along with the Merced City School District, principals, and teachers, for the annual Walk, Ride, & Roll to School event.

Officers met with students from across Merced and walked alongside them as they made their way to school. It was a great opportunity for our officers and students to connect, interact, and build positive relationships within our community.

Thank you to everyone who joined us and helped make this event a great success. We had a wonderful time and look forward to seeing you all again next year.

Today, Officer Resendez and Officer Maldonado were invited to Mrs. Kelly’s preschool class at John Muir.

The students learned about the importance of calling 9-1-1 only in an emergency, explored the different tools officers carry on their duty vests, and even got a chance to see inside a patrol vehicle.

Thank you, Mrs. Kelly, for inviting us to your classroom.
