House of Refuge, Inc. House of Refuge is a nonprofit organization in Arizona that provides safe, stable housing and supportive services for families experiencing homelessness.

Situated on nearly 20 acres in Southeast Mesa, our program offers 82 two-bedroom single family homes and a chapel/support center which allows us to provide a stable, family-friendly environment to program participants. On any given day approximately 100 adults and 150 children call House of Refuge “home.” Many come from a history of domestic violence and children often are the innocent victims. To us, a safe home and community is vital.

Help Provide a Thanksgiving Meal for a House of Refuge Family

Thanksgiving is a time to gather around the table, share a meal, and reflect on what we are grateful for. This year, you can help make sure a family at House of Refuge gets to experience that same joy.

We are looking for individuals, families, businesses, churches, and community groups to provide complete Thanksgiving meals for our families.

When you sign up, you will receive a shopping list with everything needed to create a special Thanksgiving meal, including a grocery gift card so each family can select the right size turkey for their household.

Meals will be dropped off at the House of Refuge Donation Center on Monday, November 23, between 10:00 a.m. and 4:00 p.m.

Your generosity provides more than Thanksgiving dinner. It gives a family the opportunity to pause, gather together, and simply enjoy the holiday while they continue working toward a more stable future.

One House of Refuge resident recently completed her Medical Billing and Coding course and turned that accomplishment into an increase in income.

She continued carefully tracking her finances and built $2,600 in savings.

Then came the milestone she had been working toward.

She signed the lease on her own home.

This is why every part of the journey matters. Education can lead to better employment. Increased income can create room to save. Savings can create options. And all of those steps can lead a family closer to lasting independence.

Two Homes. One Incredible Commitment to Love.

What does it mean to truly love your neighbor? Our friends at Gold Canyon United Methodist Church are showing us through their actions!

This year, their congregation has generously adopted not one, but TWO homes through our Adopt A Home program, helping provide safe housing and supportive services for families working to overcome homelessness.

We recently had the honor of unveiling the plaques on both homes, each carrying a special message chosen by the church:

"Love Thy Neighbor"

"Go Live Love"

These are more than words on a plaque. They are a reflection of a congregation that puts love into action.

For the families who call these houses home, those words serve as a daily reminder that they are surrounded by a community that cares, believes in them, and is invested in their future.

To the entire Gold Canyon United Methodist Church family, thank you for living out your mission in such a meaningful way. Your generosity is helping families build stability, independence, and brighter futures.

We are grateful to Dignity Health a member of CommonSpirit Health for their generous $17,500 investment in House of Refuge and the families we serve.

Their support will help provide safe, stable housing through our Adopt a Home program and support our 2027 Racing Toward Home Gala, helping ensure families have the resources and opportunities they need as they work toward lasting independence.

Partnerships like this make our mission possible. When businesses and community organizations choose to invest in families, they become part of every milestone along the way, from the day a family receives the keys to their House of Refuge home to the day they are ready to open the door to a home of their own.

For another, it can become financial coaching that helps a parent rebuild.

Right now, 611 families, representing 2,103 parents and children, are experiencing homelessness in Maricopa County.
