We are proud to announce that our school has been named one of America’s by Alliance for a Healthier Generation. This recognition reflects our ongoing commitment to fostering a healthy and supportive environment for our students, staff, families, and entire community. We were awarded in 3 different categories, Improving Nutrition & Food Access, Bolstering Physical Education & Activity, and Enriching Health Education.

We are so excited for our annual Farm to School Night which is happening Tuesday, October 27th from 4:30pm-6pm. We have so many amazing activities planned! From honey tasting, to pickling, to multiple cooking demonstrations and educational sessions from local partners, to student made ice cream, there’s so much fun to be had!

This event is open to all and entrance is totally free. We hope to see you there and if you want to participate in the pickling activity, please bring your own jar!

Last week, our second graders had a Fall Fair! Ms. Barnett set up and organized this whole event where students could spend “money”, play games, and earn rewards! What a great way to teach students about money and accounting.

Yesterday, our Kindergarten class made fresh pomegranate juice from freshly harvested fruit grown on our campus during their garden lesson. Mr. James showed them how to cut a pomegranate, harvest the seeds, and blend them to extract the juice! These students watched the fruit grow and now get to taste the delicious, refreshing juice for the first time. It’s such a special experience to share fresh, healthy food with young minds and let them try something they’ve never even heard of before!

We are so so grateful to all the amazing people who came out today to clean up our garden! It is looking so refreshed, clean and ready for planting.

A community can make an impossible job accomplishable. Great minds, hard workers, and a common goal are all you need to build something beautiful. Thank you again to all our supporters! A special shoutout to Ms. Iris for providing a delicious vegan friendly breakfast and to Mr. James for organizing and hosting this workday.

So many great things to share!

Slide 1-4: As part of their garden lesson for the week, students from grades 1-6 had a hands on lesson about compost. They learned about the process, its importance im reducing waste, and its benefits to the Earth and soil. Each class worked together to sift the compost that was finished from one of our school compost piles. All of the uncooked food waste (and some of the paper waste) from our kitchen and cafeteria gets composted!

Slide 5: Kindergarten and 1st grade learned about the life cycle of butterflies, so they made this fun craft.

Slide 6-11: Bee Club. Students who graduated from bee club last year are joining Mr. James and Mr. Randy for hive inspections. Slide 11 shows our bee club class from this year studying hard so they can pass the test and join inspections later this year!

Slide 12-13: Some honey ice cream served with fresh honey comb! This was made by our 6th grade class and will be served at our Farm to School Night on October 27th

Slide 14-16: Our middle schools working hard on their recipe for the Blue Watermelon Project Feeding the Future recipe contest. They are tasked with creating a breakfast that aligns with school meal service guidelines.

We are hosting a community workday on October 2nd, 2026 from 9am-12pm!

Come help us get our school garden ready for fall and some other projects that we need help with!

We are so honored and grateful to receive $5,000 from the Sprouts Healthy Communities Foundation to continue our Farm to School programming! This money will go a long way in supporting our efforts in conducting on site cooking demonstrations with students, bolstering our school garden, and allowing us to expand our programming to members of the community.

We are so thankful and would not be able to to do what we do without the support of grants, donations, and amazing organizations like Sprouts. A big shoutout to our Farm to School Coordinator, Mr. James Lang, who wrote this grant on behalf of the school and to Ms. Amy Hardgrove and Ms. Margaret Roush-Meier for going to receive the award.

It is with a heavy heart that we say goodbye to Mr. Chiu. Mr. Chiu spent over a decade teaching students at Concordia and making a big difference in the lives of thousands.

We had so many mixed emotions yesterday as we had a goodbye assembly where students presented him with letters, drawings and more so that he can remember us and be reminded of the impact he had during his time at Concordia. We wish you all the best Mr. Chiu and hope retirement treats you well, and as always May the Force Be With You!

Slide 1-7: Kindergarten had an amazing lesson last week where they got to engage their five senses! Mr. James brought them fresh honey comb from the school’s bee hive and they used all 5 senses to explore it! Then, afterwards they had some fun time in the garden. An egg from one of our chickens got dropped and cracked open, but for us, mistakes are an opportunity to learn!

Slide 13-18: Our Middle School class are getting an introduction to chemistry through bread making! Students joined Mr. James on Thursday to make 3 different types of bread. Last week, they made Jujube Jam and were able to pair ot with their fresh bread during garden class. During class, they enjoyed their bread and jam and began to make connections of how bread is made, chemical reactions! They learned how yeast interacts with sugar to make the dough rise and then when heat is added (in the oven) you get a delicious reaction!
