From the Streets to a Life of Love: Ludwick’s Journey Home ❤️🐾
Sometimes, a life is changed simply because someone takes a different road.
Our PAWS friend Nicole, who dedicates her time to rescuing cats, was leaving a friend’s house when she decided to take a different route than usual because of road construction. As she drove along, she noticed something on the sidewalk. At first, she couldn’t even make out what it was. But as she got closer, her heart sank. It was a dog, almost completely hidden beneath a mass of dreadlocks and severely matted fur.
He looked as though he may have spent his entire life struggling to survive on the streets. His fur was caked with f***s, and the mats hanging over his eyes made it nearly impossible for him to see. We can only imagine how uncomfortable, frightened, and lonely this poor boy must have been.
Nicole knew she couldn’t leave him there. She immediately contacted PAWS, and we welcomed him into our rescue family. We named him Ludwick.
Two members of our team spent countless hours carefully cutting away the thick mats and dreadlocks that had taken over his little body. Afterward, Ludwick received a much-needed bath, and we scheduled an appointment with our groomer. For the first time in who knows how long, he could begin to feel clean, comfortable, and cared for.
We shared Ludwick’s before-and-after photos, hoping his transformation would touch someone’s heart. And it certainly did!
Char Ness, PAWS’ largest donor, saw Ludwick’s story and immediately reached out. She told us she wanted to adopt him! Then, in an incredible act of generosity, Char sent PAWS $2,000 and told us to use the money for whatever Ludwick needed.
And, as it turned out, this little boy needed quite a lot.
His foster mom, PAWS team member Damaris, and her husband, Parrish, took Ludwick to the veterinarian for a thorough examination. The news was heartbreaking. Ludwick had a fractured jaw, tested positive for heartworm, needed extensive dental surgery with multiple extractions, and still needed to be neutered and have bloodwork done.
After everything this sweet boy had endured, he was finally getting the medical care he so desperately needed.
For the next six months, Damaris and Parrish lovingly fostered Ludwick, giving him a safe place to heal, rest, and discover what it meant to be cared for. With every passing day, he moved one step closer to the happy, healthy life he deserved.
Finally, the day we had all been waiting for arrived. Ludwick was ready to go home!
Char, who lives in Washington, flew all the way to Arizona to bring her new family member home. She didn’t just see a neglected dog in need. She saw a life worth saving, a heart worth loving, and a companion who deserved a beautiful future.
Today, Ludwick has a new name: Louie. And, more importantly, he has a forever home filled with love.
Louie is living the life every rescue dog deserves, loved and spoiled beyond measure by Char and Mark Ness. He even has a furry sister, Daisy (Paws dog) and the two are living happily ever after together.❤️🐾
