This past Monday, Arizona Financial Credit Union (AFCU) employees gathered in Phoenix to honor Indigenous People’s Day with an impactful give back project. HandsOn supported 650 AFCU volunteers in completing 325 Reading Rocks literacy kits and 325 Jot it Down mental health journal kits for youth. These kits will benefit children served by Native American Connections, the Salt River Pima-Maricopa Indian Community, and Chicanos Por La Causa-Guadalupe.

Thank you to Arizona Financial Credit Union and their incredible employees for recognizing Indigenous People’s Day in this extraordinary way. Your efforts will ensure hundreds of youth right here in Arizona feel inspired to read and write, enhancing their ability to believe in themselves and achieve amazing things!

Another Transformation Day success! 🌟 Two weeks ago, 76 Fidelity employees in Albuquerque, New Mexico showed up in full force for a campus beautification project at Highland High School!

Volunteers spent their morning painting school spirit murals, constructing benches, painting picnic tables, freshening up the campus’ landscaping, completing room makeovers, and so much more!

Thank you to the Fidelity Albuquerque team for working hard in support of Highland High! Because of you, staff and students will be able to enjoy a polished and refreshed campus for the rest of the school year. 💚

Watch our dedicated volunteers join hands to help our community! 👀🤝

On September 28, our team of 3 gifted the kitchen staff at HomeBase Youth Services a much-needed break as they prepared meals for our young population, aged 18 to 21, navigating homelessness. 💛💙

Our volunteers proved that all we need to make a difference is the desire to build a community based on trust, respect, and a shared purpose. 🍀✨

Good dirt, great community, and a purpose that goes way beyond the garden beds. 🌱✨

Last weekend, our incredible volunteers spent their mornings at the Escalante Community Garden—a space where everything is grown communally and sustainably. The best part? A portion of every harvest goes directly to the Tempe Community Action Agency Food Pantry to stock emergency food boxes for local families in need. 🥕🥫

From weeding and planting to harvesting fresh herbs and desert crops, every pair of hands makes a real difference right here in Tempe.

In his role as Operations and Data Systems Coordinator at Tempe Community Action Agency, Paul will help optimize systems and data to support vital community programs. Paul chose to join the HandsOn AmeriCorps VISTA team to be of service to his community and help ease the lives of those in need of a helping hand.

Last Saturday, as part of our 9/11 Service Weekend initiative, HandsOn Greater Phoenix volunteers gathered at the Southwest Autism Research & Resource Center (SARRC) main campus to lend a helping hand to local teachers and therapists.

Educators dedicate countless hours behind the scenes to create engaging, specialized learning materials for their students. Our team stepped in as "Classroom Prep Pros"—spending the morning creating hand-doodle cards, crafting custom cutouts, assembling decorations, and preparing essential supplies for upcoming lessons and activities.

SARRC does incredible work advancing research and providing a lifetime of support for individuals with autism and their families. We are honored to partner with them and deeply grateful to the volunteers who gave their Saturday morning to ensure SARRC’s team has the tools they need to thrive this week.

Last Saturday, HandsOn Phoenix partnered with Keep Phoenix Beautiful for a high-impact morning at the Pierson Street Garden as part of our 9/11 Service Weekend.

HandsOn volunteers rolled up their sleeves to help maintain and enhance this vital neighborhood resource. From planting produce and building compost bins to revamping the chicken coop, painting tables, and prepping cleanup kits, our team tackled tasks big and small to keep the space vibrant and accessible for local residents.

Keep Phoenix Beautiful works every day to ensure every neighborhood in Phoenix is a healthy, beautiful place to live. We’re grateful for their leadership and for the hard work of every volunteer who chose to honor the spirit of unity and service with us this weekend. 🌿

For 9/11 National Day of Service and Remembrance, the HandsOn AmeriCorps VISTA team and dedicated community volunteers joined forces to serve lunch at St. Vincent de Paul’s Phoenix Dining Room.

From prepping meals in the kitchen and setting up the dining hall to serving hot lunches with a warm smile and handling the final clean-up, our team showed up with purpose. Together, we helped ensure that our neighbors experiencing food insecurity felt welcomed, supported, and cared for.

Days like this remind us that our community's greatest strength lies in our willingness to show up for one another.

A heartfelt thank you to St. Vincent de Paul for their incredible daily partnership, and to every volunteer and VISTA member who spent their day giving back.
