FLOOD RISK INCREASING ACROSS THE SOUTHWEST AND HIGH PLAINS🌧️⚠️the flood risk will increase over the next few days across parts of the Southwest and Southern and Central High Plains as a surge of tropical and monsoon moisture spreads into the region!

Atmospheric moisture could approach near-record levels for this time of year, creating an environment favorable for very efficient, heavy rain-producing thunderstorms. Multiple rounds of storms could bring several inches of rain to some areas this week, increasing the risk of flash flooding.

The greatest flood concern is across New Mexico, with additional areas to watch across far West Texas, the Oklahoma Panhandle and southern Colorado. Flash flooding could develop quickly, especially near burn scars, normally dry washes and arroyos, low-water crossings, and other flood-prone locations. Never attempt to drive through flooded roadways🌧️⚠️

We are expecting heavy rainfall leading to flash flooding starting tomorrow, Tuesday, September 22, 2026 to Thursday, September 24, 2026. Come get your sandbags at the Sawmill before it’s too late. If you‘re in a flood plain, please be READY. Have your bags packed and ready to go. Limit travel to what is necessary and keep your distance from flood waters. Do not drive into water that is crossing roadways as your vehicle may be swept away. Keep an eye out for more updates and alerts from The Mescalero Apache Tribe.

Today, we remember those who sacrificed everything for people they didn’t know. They ran towards danger, when everyone else ran away. 343 FDNY firefighters and 72 NYPD were lost that day and countless more continue to die from exposures that day. Mescalero Fire and Rescue honored their sacrifice today with over an hour of stair climbs. If you‘re in Alamogordo, please keep an eye out for the 9/11 memorial, where one of our trucks and two of our own will memorialize all the innocent lives lost that day.
