Honoring a Hero: Captain Bradley D. Burney
This National Fallen Firefighter Memorial Weekend (May 2-3, 2026), we remember and honor the brave firefighters who made the ultimate sacrifice.
Among them is Mesquite Fire Department Captain Bradley D. Burney, who served with distinction for 25 years before his End of Watch on June 18, 2018.
A man of deep faith, dedicated leader, mentor, and calm in the chaos — Captain Burney embodied what it means to serve others selflessly. His legacy continues to inspire our department and community every day.
In his honor, our brand new Station 2 is lit red as part of the nationwide “Light the Night for Fallen Firefighters” tribute. Red lights across homes, stations, and landmarks shine bright to remember those who answered the call and never came home.
Thank you, Captain Burney. We will never forget.

Severe weather is expected today. Keep yourself and your loved ones safe by preparing a go-kit and having a family communication plan.
Another storm system will bring widespread rain to North and Central Texas Wednesday through Friday this week. While isolated thunderstorms will be possible, severe weather is not a concern at this time. Some areas may receive heavy rainfall, especially on Friday. When all is said and done by Friday night, many will see 2-3 inches of rain. Fortunately, things dry out this weekend with below average highs ranging from the upper 60s into the mid 70s.
