Literacy in Action at Bridgedale
Step into our beagle classrooms during literacy block and you will find scholars talking about text and characters with evidence and thinking to share!
3rd Grade: Our third graders are working on RL.3.3, describing characters traits, motivations, and feelings, and explaining how their actions contribute to the sequence of events. In The Tale of Peter Rabbit, students are discussing and explaining how Peter Rabbit shows his cleverness as a trickster through his actions.
5th Grade: Our fifth graders are exploring RL.5.2, determining a theme from details in the text and summarizing the story. In The Birchbark House, students follow Omakayas, a young Ojibwe girl, through the seasons of her life. They are discussing how she responses to events with supporting details and the determining the theme.
Collaboration: Scholars listen closely, build on each other's thinking, and challenge respectfully.
Ownership: Students set goals, reflect on their growth, and hold one another accountable. This is their classroom and their learning.
Let's hear from you: What's a time a book character's struggle taught you something? Share in the comments, and ask a Bridgedale student!
