South Florida Red Cross Lucie Counties. The American Red Cross exists to provide compassionate care to those in need.

Proudly serving Broward, Charlotte, Collier, DeSoto, Glades, Hardee, Hendry, Highlands, Indian River, Lee, Martin, Miami-Dade, Monroe, Okeechobee, Palm Beach, Polk, Sarasota & St. Our network of generous donors, volunteers and employees share a mission of preventing and relieving suffering, here at home and around the world, through five key service areas:

Disaster Relief
The Red Cross responds to approximately 70,000 disasters in the United States every year, ranging from home fires that affect a single family to hurricanes that affect tens of thousands, to earthquakes that impact millions. In these events, the Red Cross provides shelter, food, health and mental health services to help families and entire communities get back on their feet. Although the Red Cross is not a government agency, it is an essential part of the response when disaster strikes. We work in partnership with other agencies and organizations that provide services to disaster victims. Supporting America’s Military Families
The Red Cross helps military members, veterans and their families prepare for, cope with, and respond to the challenges of military service. Emergency communications, training, support to wounded warriors and veterans, and access to community resources help an average of 150,000 military families and veterans annually. Lifesaving Blood
Currently the the organization doesn't take blood donations in South Florida. In other parts of the nation, donations of blood are what make the American Red Cross the largest single supplier of blood and blood products in the U.S. Each year, nearly 4 million people donate blood through the Red Cross, helping to provide more than 40% of America’s blood supply. Health and Safety Services
The Red Cross is the nation’s leading provider of health and safety courses, such as CPR, First Aid and Lifeguard training. Each year, more than 9 million Americans participate in our training programs, including first responders, educators, babysitters, and people who want to be prepared to help others in an emergency. International Services
The American Red Cross is part of the world’s largest humanitarian network with 13 million volunteers in 187 countries. Working together, we help respond to disasters, build safer communities, and teach the rules of war. Each year, we reach an average of more than 100 million people across the globe.

🔥 Think you can spot all five fire hazards?

Some risks can hide in plain sight. Unattended cooking, overloaded outlets, candles, heating equipment and clutter near heat sources can create dangerous situations at home.

Watch the Reel, count how many you spotted and then do a quick safety check around your own home.

This , we’re proud to spotlight Ana VeigaMilton, whose journey reflects the strength of family, resilience and service.

After immigrating from Cuba with her family, Ana built a life rooted in community and giving back. Together with her husband and family, she has created a legacy of philanthropy across South Florida, supporting causes that help neighbors in times of need.

Ana’s connection to the Red Cross began when she witnessed volunteers respond to home fires in properties owned by her family’s business, providing comfort, hope and immediate assistance to families facing devastating loss. Inspired by those moments, she became a dedicated supporter of the Red Cross mission.

Thank you, Ana, for showing how the values passed down through family can create lasting impact for generations.

POV: You walk into the room and realize your roommate left a candle burning unattended. 👀🕯️

Candles may set the mood, but an unattended flame can quickly become a fire hazard. Always extinguish candles before leaving the room and keep them away from anything that could burn.

Strong communities are built through strong partnerships. Recently, the American Red Cross Mid-Florida Chapter joined the Winter Haven Fire Department for Fire & Feast, an engaging event that brought together board members, volunteers and staff to learn firsthand how collaboration strengthens community preparedness and response.

Home fires remain one of the most frequent disasters we respond to. While firefighters are often the first on scene, the recovery journey continues long after the trucks leave. Through our partnership with the Winter Haven Fire Department, the Red Cross helps families take their first steps toward recovery by providing emergency assistance, fire safety education, preparedness resources and support following a disaster.

As Tina Sweeten, Executive Director of the American Red Cross Mid-Florida Chapter, shared: “When organizations work together, we can make a greater impact on the safety and preparedness of our community.”

We're grateful to Drew Neubrand, Fire Chief and Mid-Florida Chapter Board Member, and the entire Winter Haven Fire Department team for opening their doors and sharing their expertise. Together, we're helping families prepare for emergencies, respond when disaster strikes and build a safer, more resilient community.
