SAVE South Florida's longest serving LGBTQ rights and advocacy organization. Safeguarding American Values for Everyone since 1993! SAVE won the vote 53% to 47%.

Get involved at https://linktr.ee/SAVElgbt SAVE is the leading LGBTQ advocacy organization based in South Florida, promoting equal rights for all Americans. Established in 1993, SAVE defeated a proposed statute that would have banned anti-discrimination ordinances throughout the State of Florida. In 1998, SAVE successfully lobbied for the Miami-Dade County Commission to pass an ordinance banning discrimination based on sexual orientation. The ordinance was challenged at the ballot box in 2002. In December 2014, SAVE led the charge to revisit the Human Rights Ordinance established in 1998 to add gender identity and expression, ensuring that the transgender community in Miami-Dade is also protected from discrimination. Also in 2014, SAVE helped make marriage equality a reality in Florida as a plaintiff in the Federal marriage equality case led by the ACLU of Florida, the case that allowed for same-sex marriages to begin on January 6, 2015. As we continue the movement for equal rights for all people, SAVE remains a leader in the fight for equal rights for LGBTQ Americans. We depend upon and appreciate your support! Thank you for your ongoing generosity your tireless commitment to LGBTQ equality!

SAVE volunteers joined the Florida Democratic Party, Dolphin Democrats, and Hope & Action Indivisible, the Broward Young Dems and the Broward Democratic Party for a joint Day of Action in Fort Lauderdale supporting Todd Delmay who is running for State Rep. in House District 101, and Michael Ferguson who is running for State Rep. in House District 100.

Together, volunteers knocked on 800+ doors and connected with residents to share information about the candidates and the upcoming election.

A veteran, prosecutor, and attorney, Michael Ferguson has dedicated his career to fighting for justice. As an active-duty Air Force Judge Advocate and later one of the youngest Special Trial Counsels in Air Force history, Michael is running for Florida House District 100 to protect public safety, defend Florida’s environment, and bring his commitment to service and justice to Tallahassee.

Todd Delmay, a local small business owner, is running to create stronger communities in Broward County by lowering costs, confronting the housing insecurity issue, and fighting for policies that support working families.

Thank you to every organization and volunteer who showed up to support this joint effort!

Join SAVE on Monday, October 5, for A Day Without Sunshine at the Broward Center for the Performing Arts.

This new staged reading by playwright Michael McKeever, directed by Stuart Meltzer, tells the story of Ruth Shack, Anita Bryant, and the early days of the LGBTQ movement in Florida.

Over a year ago, SAVE commissioned A Day Without Sunshine through a generous donor gift, with the participation of Ruth Shack. We had hoped Ruth would be here to see the history she helped make brought to life.

Following her recent passing, we have reflected on the courage that led Ruth to stand up for LGBTQ people long before doing so was safe, popular, or politically easy. The play brings the 1977 fight over Ruth Shack’s groundbreaking nondiscrimination ordinance to life, along with the Anita Bryant campaign that placed Miami at the center of a national fight for LGBTQ equality.

Ruth helped open the door for generations of LGBTQ advocates, organizers, and leaders. Although the human rights ordinance was defeated, that moment in history would ultimately inspire our community to found SAVE and continue the fight for equality.

Monday, October 5, 2026
7:30 PM – 9:00 PM
Broward Center for the Performing Arts

Join us as we honor Ruth’s legacy and experience this important chapter of South Florida LGBTQ history on stage. Get your tickets now at the link in our bio.
