The East Greenwich Environmental Commission recently received a donation of plants from a member of the NJ Native Plant Society who lives in the northern part of the state. He grows native plants from seed and distributes them free to public parks. On Friday, Gail, Lucy, and Marsha under the watchful eye of Luna, Marsha’s dog, helped plant some of them in the Pollinator Garden and the new ‘soft landings’ garden funded by the Hardy Plant Society.

On Monday, September 21st, the East Greenwich Environmental Commission sponsored a tour of Mickleton/Rossett Parks for the West Deptford Environmental Commission. Several West Deptford Commissioners and two student members of their commission attended. They were greeted by Township Committee Woman, Eileen Hollingshead and the Chairwoman of the EG Environmental Commission, Karen Dormann. The visitors were very impressed with all the projects taking place at the park funded by seven grants procured by the environmental commission. Prior to their visit, Lucy Hooper gave a slide presentation of the park projects at a West Deptford Environmental Commission meeting held at Riverwinds. ANJEC, the Association of New Jersey Environmental Commissions, had offered the tour in a silent auction as part of their fund raising efforts. Ed Komczyk, vice president of WDEC thanked the tour guides and stated that he not only learned a lot but hopes to implement similar projects in West Deptford.

The Gloucester County Certified Gardeners braved the heat to tour ✨Mickleton Park✨ on Wednesday, July 15th.

They were impressed with the pollinator 🦋 🐝 garden and the various soft landing beds near the parking lot and at the pond. Some made plans to return after their monthly meetings held in Clarksboro to see the changes in the pollinator garden as the growing season progresses.

Members George and Gail, who volunteer out at the park, were among those who attended. Several others have elected to be on our volunteer list.
