Do you want to learn more about how to recognize wetlands, especially on agricultural land?
Do you want to better understand the rather muddy (pun intended) rules around wetlands on farmland?
Do you want to better help your farms navigate the wet spots, and understand what is just a wet spot and what is a jurisdictional wetland?

RNRCD and PMNRCD are hosting a workshop with Zapata Courage, VT DEC Wetlands District Ecologist, on October 21 from 10am-12pm in Danby, VT (exact location and directions will be sent out to those who RSVP).

The workshop is free and welcome to all who wish to learn about wetlands! Feel free to share with farmers, landowners, and other partners you think may be interested! This will be part one in a two part series, part two will be an online webinar this winter for the folks busy in the field this time of year.

Up to $50,000 for Farmer-Led Projects. $1M Available.
The Call for 2027 Northeast SARE Farmer Grants is now available. Approximately $1M has been allocated to fund projects for this grant cycle. Awards of up to $50,000 are available, depending on the complexity of a project. Proposals are due no later than 4:00 p.m. ET on December 8, 2026.

Northeast SARE Farmer Grants provide the resources farmers need to explore new concepts agriculture conducted through experiments, surveys, prototypes, on-farm demonstrations or other research and education techniques. Projects address issues that affect farming with long-term practical impacts in mind.

Farmer Grants are designed to be a strong starting point for farmers interested in pursuing grant funding for projects. Before starting their proposals, potential candidates identify a Technical Advisor who can provide non-farming expertise in areas such as research design, troubleshooting, and promotion. The Technical Advisor acts as a go-to support person throughout the grant project, making it easier on first time grantees and forging new relationships in agricultural communities across the Northeast.

Otter Creek NRCD & VACD can support you with a Technical Advisor if you have a project in mind on your farm! Please reach out to us with questions.

Corn Harvest Preparation and Timing Event

This year, we'll be joined by Tom Eaton, who will discuss corn moisture content, harvest timing, and feed quality. We'll also
welcome John Buzeman from United Ag and Turf, who will demonstrate the John Deere HarvestLab — an NIR (near-infrared)
technology that provides real-time ingredient measurements, accurate yield and ingredient documentation, and automated site-specific data collection.

Bring your most mature corn samples and come ready to share what you're seeing in your fields! This is a great opportunity
to compare observations, discuss harvest conditions, and learn from fellow farmers and specialists as we head into harvest.
We hope to see you there!

To request a disability-related accommodation to participate in this program, please call or email Karen Gallott at 802-656-7540 or [email protected] as soon as possible, so we may assist you.
