🚔 Middlesboro Police Department Adds Drone to Public Safety Equipment 🚁

The Middlesboro Police Department is proud to announce the addition of a drone equipped with thermal imaging to our public safety equipment.

Lieutenant Floyd Patterson, who holds his FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate, will serve as the department’s initial drone operator. We plan to have additional officers become certified in the future.

The drone will be used to assist with search and rescue, missing persons, crime scenes, traffic crashes, tactical situations, disaster response, and other emergencies.

Its thermal imaging capability will be especially valuable during nighttime searches and when locating heat signatures in areas such as fields, wooded areas, and heavy vegetation. Thermal imaging will also be helpful assisting the Fire Department in locating hot spot in building fires.

We would like to give a special THANK YOU to Barbourville Police Officer Chad Wagner for coming to Middlesboro and providing valuable training and education to Lt. Patterson and Captain Joey Brigmon. We appreciate his time, knowledge, and willingness to help our department.

This new technology gives our officers another valuable tool to enhance public safety, improve officer safety, and better serve our community.
