SPECIAL NEWS RELEASE – October 7, 2026

Middlesex Police Respond to Threatening Calls at Middlesex High School

On Wednesday, October 7, 2026, at approximately 11:52 a.m., a staff member at the Middlesex High School received a threatening phone call. In response to the threatening call, school administration immediately placed the school into lockdown and notified the Middlesex Borough Police Department. Class III Special Law Enforcement Officer Troy Alston, who was already inside the school, immediately began investigating the threat and assisting with the school’s security response.

Additional Middlesex Borough Police officers, including School Resource Officer/Detective Paul Muldowney, quickly responded to the school to assist with the investigation. While officers were on scene, the same individual made several additional calls to school staff members, making similar threats of violence against the school. The school remained in lockdown while officers conducted their investigation and worked closely with school administrators to assess the credibility of the threats and ensure the safety of students and staff.

Through their investigation, Middlesex Borough Police were able to determine that the threatening calls did not represent an actual ongoing threat to the school. The lockdown was subsequently lifted once police and school officials were satisfied that the immediate threat had been resolved. Police Chief Matthew P. Geist commended the school administration and staff for their prompt response, the cooperation and communication between school officials and police and the quick response of department personnel. “The safety of our students and staff is always our highest priority,” said Chief Geist. “Our school officials followed the appropriate procedures immediately, our officers responded quickly, and the communication between the school and police department throughout this incident was excellent. I also want to recognize Class III Officer Troy Alston, who was already in the school when the initial call was received. His presence and immediate response were an added benefit to our department and the school community during a very serious situation.”

The intentional telephone calls that caused significant public concern and disruption remain under investigation. Anyone who may have information regarding the calls or the individual responsible is asked to contact Detective Paul Muldowney of the Middlesex Borough Police Department at (732) 356-1900, ext. 361, or by email at [email protected].

Should you have any questions or require clarification regarding the information provided, please contact Lt. Sean Flanagan at (732) 356-1900 extension 351 or at [email protected].

💜 October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month 💜

This month, we stand together to raise awareness, support survivors, honor those whose lives have been lost, and work toward ending relationship abuse.

Domestic violence can affect anyone, regardless of age, gender, background, or circumstance. Behind every statistic is a person, a family, and a story. Survivors deserve to be heard, believed, supported, and treated with dignity.

As a police department, we are committed to responding with compassion, taking investigations seriously, connecting survivors with resources, and holding offenders accountable. But ending domestic violence takes all of us.

💜 Support survivors.
💜 Honor victims.
💜 Speak up against abuse.
💜 Know the warning signs.
💜 Help create relationships and communities built on safety and respect.

If you or someone you know is experiencing domestic violence, you are not alone. Help is available, and reaching out is a sign of strength.

Together, we can break the cycle of abuse and build a community where everyone feels safe, respected, and valued.

On Wednesday, October 7th, students, along with their parents/guardians, are encouraged to Walk, Bike and Roll safely to school!

The purpose of this day is to encourage children to be more active and make safe routes to school. As well, we want to to ensure that motorists are aware of the presence of pedestrians and cyclists, and remain alert to the presence of children on their way to and from school.
