Construction is wrapping up at the Conewago Creek Restoration Site. The completion of this phase expands upon the work completed in phase 1-3, and brings the total restoration of the Conewago Creek to 20 acres of floodplain, 6000 feet of watercourse, and the removal of 145,000 cubic yards of legacy sediment between all four phases.
In the coming weeks, crews will be out to plant over 12,000 native plants, including trees, landscape plants, and meadow grasses. When grown, the plantings and restoration of the natural floodway will help increase biodiversity, decrease invasive species, and decrease flooding in the surrounding area.

Construction on the final section of the Conewago Creek Restoration began earlier this week, with crews working back down towards the 230 bridge. This final section will remove an estimated 5,000 cubic yards of legacy sediment. When completed, this will bring the total amount of legacy sediment removed during phase 4 to 20,000 cubic yards! This removal, and subsequent exposure of the natural floodplain will help to restore this area back to historical conditions, creating a habitat where native plant and animal life are able to prosper, and positively impacting Londonderry Township’s impact on its local environment!
