Cybersecurity Awareness Month continues!

Having a strong password makes it more difficult for a cyber threat actor to gain access to your accounts. Strong passwords are long, not repeated across platforms, and include special characters.

Want more information on cybersecurity and what you can do to stay protected? Join our Cybersecurity EMPS Anne for her lunch-and-learn Byte-Sized Bites and Insights class Thursday!

Think before you click!

Phishing scams are becoming increasingly popular. All it takes is a single click for information to be stolen. If it seems suspicious at all, don't click the link!

October is National Cybersecurity Awareness Month. Every Thursday in the month of October, DEMHS will be offering lunch-and-learn sessions, "Byte-Sized Bites and Insights."

Each week will be a new topic, taught by our cybersecurity specialist, Anne Habeck. To sign up, click the link below:

DEMHS is celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month!

National Hispanic Heritage Month was established in 1988. It commemorates the independence anniversaries of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, and Nicaragua. Mexico and Chile also celebrate their independence in September.

Celebrating National Hispanic Heritage Month highlights the importance of culture in our communities and how it can better prepare us during times of crisis. Through culture and inclusion, we can foster dependability, accessibility, and resilience, making Connecticut a stronger and safer place for all those who live here.

What is a Voluntary Agency Liaison?

A Voluntary Agency Liaison (VAL) serves as the central coordination point between government entities (Federal, State, Local, Tribal, and Territorial) and voluntary, faith-based, private sector, and community organizations responding to disasters.

Stephanie (pictured) is a VAL for Connecticut DEMHS. This past weekend she deployed to the field with other Voluntary Organizations Active in Disasters (VOAD) to assess flooding damage from the Sept 13th floods.

The State of Connecticut works closely with CT VOAD to assist residents and business owners in Connecticut after a disaster or emergency. Having coordination such as this allows us to maximize the number of resources we can send to communities affected by events like flooding, power outages, snowstorms and beyond.
