Today, our CTE team is visiting Jefferson Middle School to bring students a hands-on look at what "real life" is all about through Reality Store!

Through this interactive event, students explore careers, salaries and budgeting by making real-world choices from housing and financials, to groceries and utilities.

A special thank you to our volunteers from Dow, Corteva Agriscience, MBS International Airport, Community Corrections, MyMichigan Health, Midland Area Community Foundation, along with community members, MCESA team members, and Jefferson Middle School alumni for generously giving their time for this event today!

Today we celebrate White Cane Awareness Day!

Observed annually on October 15, White Cane Awareness Day recognizes the white cane as an important symbol of independence for individuals who are blind or visually impaired. Today reminds us that vision loss does not define a person's abilities or limit their potential. With the right tools, skills, training, and opportunities, individuals who are blind or visually impaired can live, learn, work, and travel independently.

Pictured are MCESA team members Patty Killey, Teacher Consultant for the Blind and Visually Impaired and Orientation and Mobility Specialist, and Karen Smith, Visually Impaired/Braille Paraeducator, alongside one of our students.

Patty and Karen play an important role in helping students build the skills and confidence needed to navigate the world with greater independence. We are grateful for the meaningful work they do each day!

Let's celebrate the power of the white cane, recognize the amazing accomplishments of those who use it, and continue building a world that is accessible and inclusive for everyone!
