Today is a day to mourn and to reflect.

We recommend Adam Kinzinger's article, "Twenty-Five Years Later, September 11th Is Still Asking Something of Us". Here's an excerpt from that article:

"You remember it if you’re old enough. Strangers stood in line for hours to give blood. Firefighters from towns that had never lost a soul suddenly lost dozens of their own and showed up for the next shift anyway. People flew flags off porches that had never flown one. Neighbors who had lived beside each other for years without speaking suddenly knocked on the door to ask if everyone was okay. Nobody checked party registration first. Nobody asked where you were from or who you’d voted for. For a little while, we were simply Americans, and we treated each other like it."

Amidst Covid-level inflation, unprecedented deficit spending, and a floundering war in Iran, the sitting President of the United States is using his sacred tenure in the Oval Office to devise proprietary insider trading and market manipulation ventures.

These platforms would allow the Trump family, their associates, and anyone willing to pay $100,000 a month (you read that right) the ability to cheat markets and enrich themselves without the ethical oversight of third-party institutions.

The only question: Where will America draw the line at rock-bottom?

The second Trump administration has been a story of self-enrichment: insider no-bid government contracts, crypto schemes, and resort deals with foreign nations.

What's absent from this story is any sense of how "America First" applies to the welfare of the American people rather than just those in the inner-circle.

It feels like a story of how much one family can loot from our nation's finances on a four-year time crunch. Predictable? Perhaps. But America is noticing, and better late than never.

This has required dipping into its trust fund, built up over the decades when the Baby Boomers were in their peak earning years. That fund is on track to run out by 2032. America has a gerontocracy problem.

With the recent passing of Senator Lindsey Graham and the hospitalization of Senator Mitch McConnell, now feels like the right moment to ask why we keep tolerating a geriatric Senate.

When 65 out of 100 senators are 62 or older, we have to question how in touch they can really be with the needs and struggles of a younger, working population — one that is one or even two generations removed from their own lived experience.

Rahm Emanuel, the former Chicago mayor and White House chief of staff, has called for an age cap of 75 across all three branches of the federal government.
