Wasatch Front Waste & Recycling District We boast world class customer service with a 95.3 percent overall satisfaction score among our customers.

Wasatch Front Waste serves the municipalities of Brighton, Copperton, Cottonwood Heights, Emigration, Herriman, Holladay, Kearns, Magna, Millcreek, Taylorsville, and White City; and portions of Murray and Sandy; and the unincorporated areas of SL County. The mission of Wasatch Front Waste and Recycling District is to provide sustainable integrated waste and recycling collection services for the health and safety of our community... because not everything fits in the can. Wasatch Front Waste proudly serves Copperton, Emigration, Kearns, Magna and White City Metro Townships; the cities of Cottonwood Heights, Herriman, Holladay, Millcreek, Taylorsville, and portions of Murray and Sandy; and the unincorporated areas of Salt Lake County. There is approximately 144,000 tons of waste generated annually by the 82,000+ homes that we are responsible to collect and haul. We provide a variety of ways to collect and haul this waste including weekly curbside waste, recycling, and subscription green waste collections. Wasatch Front Waste became a separate government organization from Salt Lake County effective January 1, 2013. The Salt Lake County Council and the District Board made this change to bring control of garbage and recycling pick-up closer to the people. Cities and townships serviced now have ultimate authority regarding their sanitation needs and are governed by the Administrative Control Board.

DID YOU KNOW?
All green waste collected through our curbside Green Waste Subscription Program goes to the Salt Lake Valley Composting Facility!
Your grass clippings, leaves, and small branches are composted for about 12 weeks, then screened to create compost available for purchase. Your yard waste gets a new purpose—helping enrich soil and nourish plants while reducing landfill waste.
Keep it clean: place approved green waste loose in your can. No plastic bags, trash, rocks, or dirt.

Did you know?
Recycling just one aluminum can saves enough energy to power a television for about 3 hours.
Aluminum is one of the most valuable materials in your recycling cart because it can be recycled over and over again without losing quality.
Small actions really do add up. Keep aluminum cans empty, clean, and loose in your recycling cart.

🚫 Myth: One wrong item ruins the entire recycling load.
✅ Fact: Recycling facilities remove contamination throughout the sorting process to recover as much recyclable material as possible.
That said, contamination still creates extra work, increases costs, and reduces efficiency. The cleaner our recycling is, the more material can be successfully recycled.
Every correct item makes a difference.

Every week we inspect recycling loads to better understand what ends up in our recycling carts.
This week's most common contaminants:
🛍️ Plastic bags
🌿 Yard waste
👕 Clothing
These items can't be processed with curbside recyclables and can cause delays, damage equipment, or contaminate recyclable materials.
A few small changes at home help keep recycling working for everyone.

Not everything with a ♻️ symbol belongs in your recycling cart.
Items like plastic bags, batteries, electronics, and household chemicals can damage sorting equipment, create safety hazards, and slow down the recycling process.
These materials often have their own recycling or disposal programs—just not in your curbside recycling cart.
Help protect our workers and equipment by keeping these items out.
Do you have hard to dispose of items? See our “Hard-to-Recycle” guide for options!

PUBLIC DROP-OFF EVENT UPDATE
All Central Bulky Waste Public Drop-Off events are now CLOSED/CANCELLED.
Due to lack of participation, the previously planned events for Millcreek, Holladay, and Murray have been cancelled. This allows WFWRD to focus additional resources on container deliveries and fulfilling container waitlist requests.
