Midvale Elementary students partnered up with their Buddy Classes to participate in the first-ever Utah Statewide Read-a-Thon on October 2. Dressed up in their "comfy" clothes for the day, older students read with younger students all throughout the school. The Read-a-Thon is part of Utah Reads, a statewide effort to help children build strong reading skills and encourage Utahns of all ages to make reading a habit. Join us Tuesday, October 13, at 5:30pm to learn more about Spanish Dual Language Immersion at Midvale Elementary School. The Dual Immersion Program provides opportunities for students to learn to speak, read, and write in both English AND Spanish, celebrating and preserving the language and culture of Spanish-speaking countries around the world. Immersion programs are a great way to challenge students while preparing them to compete in today’s world. Elementary students spend half the day learning core subjects in English and the other half of the day learning Spanish.

Applications for Spanish Dual Language Immersion are being accepted online now through Tuesday, Dec. 15, 2026, for the 2027-28 school year. We also have openings in some grade levels for the current school year. We will be available to assist you in completing these online applications at the event tomorrow evening!

Last Friday was a busy but exciting day here at Midvale Elementary. We kicked off the morning with our first Family Matters breakfast of the year. Ms. Mackay shared great information while families enjoyed donuts and pastries together. Some parents then headed to classrooms to participate in their students' morning meetings and were able to experience what their students see in class each day.

Midvale Middle School students participated in their annual Day of Caring event, with many students reading with our Kindergarten and 1st grade students. They also gifted each student with a book and a pencil! Middle School art students shared important messages for our students by creating and putting up posters around our school as well. Thank you to the MMS students, teachers, and staff for sharing their day with us!

Midvale Elementary School is a Spanish Dual Immersion School with a rich and diverse community of learners from all over the world. On Wednesday, we honored National Hispanic Heritage Month with a morning celebration before school. With brightly colored flags flying above and the flags of many countries waving below, teachers and staff danced to traditional music, Mr. Torres sang a beautiful rendition of Yo No Se Olvidar, and Hillcrest Latinos in Action students danced to a fun mix of music that got everyone dancing! And, of course, Mr. Navarro led the crowd in passionately reciting El Grito. Many families joined us in our celebration, with several students and staff wearing the traditional colors of their countries. What a fun way to start the day and honor the cultures and traditions of many of our families!

Today we held our first awards ceremony for our Chief Examples for Others (CEO's)! These students were nominated by their teachers because they consistently demonstrate the character trait of RESPECT in school. Congratulations to our Midvale Mustangs for showing Mustang PRIDE and being good examples for all of us!

Back-to-School Night was a great success! After meeting their teachers and choosing a backpack, families enjoyed lemonade and hot dogs, snow-cones, face-painting, balloon animals, and crafts. Families could also pick out some school clothes and get a haircut just in time to start the year out right. A big thank you to Risen Life Church for providing all of the festivities, clothing, and volunteers, as well as to Costco, Cheesecake Factory, United Way, and Kids in Need Foundation for providing school supplies and backpacks for all of our students. And, of course, we cannot thank Steve Rodriguez and Edwin Alfaro enough for always coming through with the coolest haircuts for our kids. We are so grateful to our community!

Congratulations to our very own Midvale Elementary School librarians, Mrs. Harris and Mrs. Brown! We are so very proud of you and all of your hard work! We can't wait for school to start again so they can use their knowledge to help our students grow their love of literacy, of our library, and of learning!

A big thanks goes out to Zions Bank for choosing Midvale Elementary, along with other local schools, for their annual Paint-a-Thon project. At Midvale Elementary, Zions Bank employees and their families brightened up the gym, making the space more warm and inviting for students. They also repainted playground lines, washed lost and found clothing, and had a wonderful sign made for our new Family Resource Center. We can't thank them enough for their investment in our school community!
