Presenter applications are now open for our August 2027 Quills Conference!

- Our 2027 keynote speakers have already been selected. We are not accepting keynote applications.
- Authors and editors, please submit 3+ presentation proposals. The more class options you submit, the more likely you are to be accepted.
- Returning presenters are welcome, but if you've taught at any League of Utah Writers conferences in the last 3 years please submit new class options.
- We also welcome literary agents and acquiring editors to take manuscript pitch appointments from conference guests.
- If you're a subject matter expert on a topic writers need to know about, we want to hear from you! Past conferences have featured experts like blacksmiths, law enforcement, legal and medical professionals, scientists, teachers, religious and spiritual practitioners, and much more. Give a guest presentation to help our authors get the details right in their work! Subject matter experts are not required to submit multiple presentation options, though up to 6 proposals per applicant are welcome.

The League of Utah Writers has been proudly serving writers of all genres since 1935. That's a long time, which means we have a lot of history we need to document! Check out our History page at https://www.leagueofutahwriters.org/league-history for some fascinating articles written by former League Historian Rick Shaw about the League's early years.

The page is a work in progress, and we need your help. We're working on documenting the annual award winners. If you, or a friend or relative, won Writer of the Year (not a Quill award or other writing competition) in the following years, please email [email protected] with any documentation you have (photo of the certificate, newspaper clipping from the time that mentions it, listed in an obituary, etc.)

We know many of the years' award recipients, but we're still looking for Writer of the Year winners for the years 1946-1981, 1985, 1986, 1988-1990, 1992-1996, 1998-2005, 2007-2015, and 2018. If you know for sure who won in any of those years, please get in touch with us!

Stories are the stuff humans are made from. We tell ourselves stories to understand the world and use the stories we hear from others as inspiration for our outlook and choices.

We invite you to submit a poem, essay, or story that will share your observations on the theme of stories and how they influence reality, including the ways we perceive ourselves and each other.
