TRAIL P**P PSA‼️🐾

Please help us keep our trails “poo-fectly clean” by picking up and disposing of all pet waste in a dog waste receptacle. Forgot your bags at home? No problem! All receptacles have bags stocked and ready to go.

Stop by Rowe Visitor Center, visit our website, or pull up the Mobile Guide to locate a pet waste station along your route.

Our dog waste receptacles are generously sponsored by Appletree Pet Clinic.

Believe it or not, THIS is a caterpillar! 👀

This is the caterpillar of the Crowned slug moth (Isa textual). Per its namesake, slug caterpillars (in the family Limacodidae) glide like a slug along the underside of host species such as oak, maple, or beech leaves. This one was spotted by Nature Center staff just off the Mashburn Discovery Trail at Rowe Woods.

But unlike the slimy mucusy slug which glides on its stomach, the slug caterpillar DOES have legs, they are just so small, that it gives the illusion that they are gliding without. Despite its roughly 0.5” size, the prominent “do not touch me” crowned-like venomous spines is enough to heed the warning.

We heard fringe was trending again, but the crowned slug caterpillar really took it up a notch!

School may be back in session but we still find ourselves reflecting on all the FUN that was had this past summer! From crayfish catchin’, creek clay tattoos, and fort building at Long Branch Farm & Trails, to the native seed slingshot and “mud camouflage” at Rowe Woods.

Nature for All is at the heart of Cincinnati Nature Center’s mission of Inspiring Conservation. By removing barriers like cost, transportation, and unfamiliarity, the program creates meaningful opportunities for people to explore, learn, and belong in the natural world.

Through partnerships with schools, community organizations, and social service agencies, Nature for All connects people to nature who might not otherwise have the opportunity. In 2025 alone, more than 10,000 individuals experienced the trails, education programs, and outdoor spaces made possible through this work.
