Hi friends!
My special home could use some helpings. Hammy is gonna live with is now. Could you please show Hammy some love with a donation or a share?
🐾 Saying Goodbye for Hammy’s Sake 🐾
Yesterday afternoon, around 1 PM, we received a call from a very distraught woman. A PAGC Warden had visited her home to explain that her beloved “pet” squirrel, Hammy, was illegal to keep and needed to be placed with someone properly permitted. The kind Warden provided her and her husband with our contact information, and they made the difficult decision to do what was best for Hammy.
By 4 PM, the couple arrived at our facility with Hammy and all of his belongings. It was a somber visit filled with many tears. They left with an empty car and broken hearts, but with the assurance that Hammy would receive love and care for the rest of his natural life. They would be able to visit but only after Hammy adjusts to his new life.
Hammy is here with us now, safe forever, though he misses his mom and dad. ❤️Our team cleaned his cage this morning and provided him with a bowl of healthy food. He was quite the gentleman and did not attack or bite anyone. He's a good boy but this is so very confusing to him.
We know how easy it is to fall in love with a wild animal, and how the internet can make raising them look simple. But wildlife belongs in nature or under the care of trained professionals. If you find orphaned wildlife, please reach out to licensed rehabbers immediately. Doing so helps avoid heartbreak like this and ensures the best possible outcome for the animals.
Thank you to everyone who helps protect and care for our precious wildlife. Together, we can make a difference. 🌿
We are going to turn the donate button on for this post. In the last 2 months we've taken on 5 non-releasable squirrels, 4 of which were raised by the public as pets and we could use some help in the additional costs.
