Weather Advisory: Severe Storm Warning

The entire area is under a Slight Risk (2/5) for severe weather today, with two distinct rounds of strong to severe storms expected to impact the region. The primary hazard across both rounds is damaging winds, with localized heavy rainfall and large hail presenting secondary risks.

The first wave of weather is projected to move into the area between 0800 and 1500, primarily affecting locations east of the Mississippi River as the system pushes in from Kentucky. Following a brief break, a second, more widespread round of storms is expected to develop and impact the entire Mid-South region between 1600 and 2300.

Due to the high probability of damaging winds, residents and personnel are strongly urged to prepare for flying debris by clearing yards of loose items and securing all outdoor lawn furniture. Please remain vigilant, monitor local weather updates, and secure outdoor work areas as these storm systems approach.

An additional 1 to 2.5” of rainfall is forecast through the next 7 days, with the greatest amounts mainly along and south of the I-40 corridor.

Never walk, swim, or drive through floodwaters. The road or pathway beneath may be washed out, and water depth is often deceptive. It only takes 6 inches of swift-moving water to knock you off your feet, and 2 feet to sweep away most vehicles.
