Follow the commissioners

Want to keep up with county decisions? The commissioners hold public hearings at 2 p.m. on the first, second and fourth Thursdays of each month at the County Courthouse. You can attend in person or online, and recordings are posted to YouTube. Last week they approved a contract with the Missoula Rural Fire District for collecting and allocating impact fees.

Have a community project that needs a little help getting over the finish line? Missoula County's Rural Micro Grants offer up to $500 for projects outside city limits, with no matching funds required. Schools, nonprofits, special districts, community councils and individuals can all apply, and applications are reviewed monthly.

A recent local example: a $500 grant funded wayfinding signs recognizing the Piltzville, West Riverside and Pine Grove communities along Highway 200.

Following adoption of a one-year moratorium on new or expanded data centers outside City limits, county staff have been working on a study to evaluate the impacts of data centers and determine the best way to regulate them to protect health, safety and the natural environment.

County staff will present a draft of this study on Tuesday, Oct. 27, at 6 p.m. in the Home Arts Building at the Missoula County Fairgrounds. Residents are invited to attend this in-person presentation.

Missoula Public Health and partners will be conducting a short in-person survey Tuesday through Friday, Oct. 13-16 in select neighborhoods in Missoula County.

Survey results will be compiled to be part of the Community Health Assessment, a document that provides a clear, reliable picture of local health issues and needs of individuals and communities.

Completing the Community Health Assessment will allow MPH and healthcare partners to more effectively secure funding, allocate resources and plan strategically.
