The Milpitas Police Department Citizen Volunteer Program was established in 2002 to provide community members with meaningful opportunities to serve alongside the Police Department. Gwen Osborne joined the Citizen Volunteer Program in 2007 and recently completed her 19th year of dedicated service.

Gwen recently announced her retirement from the Citizen Volunteer Program, concluding nearly two decades of exceptional service to the Milpitas Police Department and the community. Throughout her years of service, Gwen consistently demonstrated a willingness to assist wherever she was needed and could always be counted on to support the Department and those we serve. Gwen dedicated countless hours assisting Police Evidence Technicians with the processing of property and evidence, supporting the Records Unit with court runs, and providing Child Identification Fingerprinting services to local families at community events throughout the City. She readily accepted new assignments and frequently volunteered during evenings and weekends to support special projects, including DUI checkpoints and Police Department outreach at City-sponsored events. In 2019, Gwen was honored as the 2019 Citizen Volunteer of the Year, highlighting her tremendous contributions to the department.

Gwenโ€™s dedication, reliability, and selfless commitment to service have made a lasting impact on the Milpitas Police Department and provided tremendous benefit to the Milpitas community. Her contributions over the past 19 years are sincerely appreciated, and her presence within our Department will truly be missed.

Please join us in thanking Gwen for all her years of dedicated service and wishing her all the best in her next chapter!

This past Saturday, Assistant Chief Jamison joined our friends from PRAGNYA for Dinkchak Dhamaal Dandiya at the Barbara Lee Senior Center! ๐ŸŽ‰

Since 2022, MPD has proudly partnered with PRAGNYA through its First Responders for Neurodiversity Support (FRNDS) program, creating meaningful connections with neurodiverse individuals and their families, and creating opportunities for inclusion and community participation.๐Ÿ’™

The evening was filled with music, laughter, and plenty of dancing. And yes, Asst. Chief Jamison made his way onto the dance floor. ๐Ÿ•บ Unfortunately, we have no photographic evidence to prove it! ๐Ÿ‘€๐Ÿ“ธ๐Ÿ˜‚

So, if you were there and caught a photo or video of him showing off his Dandiya moves, please share it in the comments or tag us. Weโ€™d love to see them.

Thank you, PRAGNYA, for another incredible evening of inclusion, connection, and community. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ“š Learning, Laughter, and Community Connections! ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ“š

Last week, our officers traded the patrol car for the playground and had a great time visiting students at Monarch Christian and Burnett Elementary School! ๐Ÿ’™
Our young friends learned about when to call 9-1-1, what police officers do to help keep our community safe, and, one of the highlights of the day - got an up-close look inside a police car! ๐Ÿš“ Of course, we couldnโ€™t leave without handing out a few MPD stickers too! โญ

School visits are always a favorite for our officers. They give us a chance to answer questions, share a few laughs, and most importantly, help kids get to know the officers who serve their community. Building trust and positive relationships starts early, and sometimes it starts with a sticker and a police car! ๐Ÿ’™

A big thank you to Monarch Christian and Burnett Elementary School for inviting us and making our officers feel so welcome!

๐Ÿซ Want MPD to visit your school? ๐Ÿซ

Reach out to Officer Padilla at [email protected] to schedule a visit. Weโ€™d love to stop by! ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ‘‹

๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ“ต Eyes Up. Phone Down. Drive Safe ๐Ÿš—๐Ÿ“ต

Today is National Do Not Disturb While Driving Day. A good reminder that the text, call, email, or notification can wait. Keeping your attention on the road helps keep you and everyone around you safe. ๐Ÿ’™
Before you put the car in drive:

๐Ÿ“ฑ Turn on Do Not Disturb While Driving
๐Ÿ“ต Put your phone somewhere you wonโ€™t be tempted to reach for it
๐Ÿ‘€ Keep your eyes up and watch for pedestrians, cyclists, and other vehicles
๐Ÿ›‘ Need to use your phone? Pull over somewhere safe first

It only takes a few seconds of distraction for everything to change.

So, wherever youโ€™re headed today, give the road your full attention. Put the phone down, enjoy the drive, and get there safely. ๐Ÿš”๐Ÿ’™

No notification is worth a collision.

The Milpitas Police Department has been awarded a $74,000 grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to support public awareness and special traffic enforcement efforts through September 2027.

What does that mean for our community? ๐Ÿ‘‡

Throughout the year, youโ€™ll see our officers conducting targeted traffic safety operations focused on the driving behaviors that contribute to crashes, injuries, and fatalities.

Grant-funded efforts will include:

๐Ÿšซ๐Ÿบ DUI checkpoints and saturation patrols to identify impaired drivers and help keep them off our roads.

๐Ÿšฆ Traffic enforcement operations focused on speeding, red-light violations, stop signs, and other dangerous driving behaviors.

๐Ÿšถโ€โ™€๏ธ๐Ÿšด Pedestrian and bicycle safety enforcement at intersections and areas where collisions are occurring.

๐Ÿ๏ธ Motorcycle safety operations in areas with higher motorcycle traffic and collision activity.

๐Ÿš— Seat belt and child safety seat enforcement to help protect drivers and passengers of all ages.

๐ŸŽ“ Traffic safety education for youth and community members covering distracted driving, impaired driving, teen driving, and bicycle and pedestrian safety.

๐Ÿ‘ฎ Specialized officer training to improve the identification and apprehension of drivers suspected of driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs.

๐Ÿ“Š DUI data analysis to help identify repeat offenders and support focused enforcement efforts.

Traffic safety is a shared responsibility. Whether youโ€™re driving, walking, riding a bicycle, or traveling by motorcycle, the choices we make on the road can make a difference.

Slow down. Stay focused. Drive sober. Buckle up. And help us make every trip through Milpitas a safer one. ๐Ÿ’™

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš” Honoring Those Who Helped Build Our Department ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš”

Yesterday, we had the privilege of hosting our 1st Annual Retiree Luncheon, welcoming back retired members of the Milpitas Police Department for an afternoon of great food, plenty of stories, and reconnecting with familiar faces. โค๏ธ๐Ÿ’™

Our retirees also had the opportunity to tour the department and see some of the upgrades, improvements, and new technology that have been added over the years. A lot may have changed, but one thing hasnโ€™t , the sense of family and pride that comes with being part of MPD.

It was great hearing old stories, sharing some laughs, and catching up with those who helped shape our department into what it is today.

A career may end, but the connection to our police family doesnโ€™t. To all of our retirees: thank you for your years of dedicated service, the traditions you established, and the foundation you built for those who followed.

We were proud to welcome you home and look forward to making this tradition even bigger next year! ๐Ÿ’™๐Ÿš”
