While our crew was busy with a medical call, EMFD was dispatched for an excavator fire, north off of Jeff Ates Rd. AC15 responded and requested Harold Volunteers (St. 16) to assist. Rescue 16 quickly responded and Engine 15 cleared from their medical call and responded as well. AC15 arrived on scene to a fully involved excavator and due to the extremely remote location, requested that St. 16 units stand by at the entrance to this property and await Engine 15’s arrival, to transport the officer and firefighter. All crews arrived at the land clearing operation and quickly extinguished the fire which was fed primarily due to leaking diesel fuel and hydraulic fluid. The excavator was a total loss, but there was no danger of spread and there were no exposures. There were no injuries to any crews, or workers at the site. Well done and thank you St. 16 for the assistance!

In the U.S., only about 10% of cardiac arrests that occur outside of a hospital result in a successful outcome. As first responders, it’s something many may never experience in their entire career.
Our C-Shift crew (Captain Simonton not shown) was fortunate enough to be part of that 10%—and today, West Florida Hospital brought everything full circle by reuniting the patient with all of the first responders who played a role in his pre-hospital care. Moments like this remind us why we do what we do.
Thank you to West Florida Hospital for coordinating such a meaningful reunion and for recognizing the efforts of everyone involved. And a big thank you to the SRSO and Lifeguard crews for being alongside us on scene as that critical first line of response.
Proud of this team and grateful for the opportunity to serve our community. We are so very proud of our crews at East Milton Fire Rescue! Strong work!
