Mission: The Dominican Center works with Amani residents and partners to build a better future. They began with an adult literacy program for women. The U.S.

The Dominican Center was founded by Sister Ann Halloran, OP and Sister Anne-Marie Doyle, OP in 1995. They began this urban ministry program in Milwaukee’s Amani neighborhood. By addressing the needs of women, they hoped to make positive change in the distressed area. Through the years, the Dominican Center has been responsive to the changing needs of the community. It now serves both men and women of all ages. Programs have expanded to include GED preparation, financial literacy, job skills, home ownership, health and safety. In August 2012, DCW was named the lead community based organization for the Building Neighborhood Capacity Program (BNCP). Departments of Justice, Education, Housing and Urban Development, and Treasury support this program, with technical assistance provided by the Center for the Study of Social Policy. The Amani neighborhood is one of eight neighborhoods selected nationwide. The BNCP Amani neighborhood objective is to cultivate a resident-led community revitalization plan to improve education, employment, housing, health and safety. Successful resident engagement and leadership programs are integral to neighborhood revitalization.

🎉 Congratulations, JR! 🎉

We’re excited to share that one of our Amani Community Outreach Ambassadors, JR, has transitioned into a trainee opportunity with Ezekiel Hope!

While we’re sad to lose him as an Ambassador, we’re even more excited to see him take this next step. This is what community development is all about: creating pathways that help residents grow, build new skills, and access opportunities that benefit themselves, their families, and the community.

JR, congratulations on this new chapter! 👏🏾 We look forward to watching your continued growth and evolution. 💚

🏠 Thriving in Place!

Dominican Center was excited to attend our partner CDA’s Annual Conference, “Thriving in Place” last week.

It was great to hear from housing professionals from across Milwaukee who are working to ensure residents have the resources, opportunities, and support they need to not only remain in their homes and neighborhoods, but truly thrive in place.

As we continue advancing housing and homeownership efforts in Amani, conversations like these are important. We appreciate the opportunity to learn, connect, and continue building partnerships that help create stronger neighborhoods and greater housing stability for residents.

Thank you to CDA for bringing so many voices together for this important conversation! 💚🏡
